Not strictly a film but the 2 part mini-series Blue Murder is sensational.

Last Train to Freo worth a watch.

I saw an Aussie comedy called Bad Eggs, featuring all the main comedians from a few years back. It was a bit of a spoof of cop films and it really tickled me. I've tried to track down a copy a few times since but no luck. Anyone seen it?

F/X (1986) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089118/ or most stuff with Bryan Brown in it.

Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252444/

Pretty shocking how the locals were/are treated by the Australians/Colonials/British.

Here's a very good documentary about Australian cinema.

Not quite Hollywood.

Sirens

Elle Macpherson puts on a bit of timber for the role and spends much of the film in the nip.

Ok, it's a New Zealand film so sue me. It can be very hard to watch due to the content like domestic violence and abuse but definitely worth your time.

And it has Jake The Muss.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned:

The Dish: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0205873/

And less surprised that nobody has mentioned:

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109045

Still a bloody good film though.

That was a great film, somewhat hard to watch though as you say.
Quite different from Temuera's previous role in Shortland Street (if anyone remembers that)
