OK, here's an obscure one for everyone: "Hawk the Slayer" is a 70s heroic-fantasy movie (think Lord of the Rings rip-off) with a disco/spaghetti western soundtrack. Made on the tiniest budget known to man, with a fab mainly-British cast, and the main protagonists are Nigel Terry and Jack Palance. It's so bad, it's positively brilliant!

I remember that! I remember being shocked at the scene where Jack Palance uses his powers to rip out the heart of one of his victims! lol

Completely forgotten about that one. Saw it years ago at school via projector during a rained off sports day.

Proper late 70's sound effects. Fantastic!

Blame my bf for sending me a link and making me read this!

Read through the WHOLE lot with the usual 'oooh I have a few unusual ones'in my head - got to page 9 and two had been mentioned but can't believe that

Kung Fu Hustle

hasn't been mentioned - possibly one of the finest films I've seen for a while - has the complete range of humour, action, romance, musical, basically you name it, it has it.

The others I did have in my head;

Bubba Ho-Tep
Run Lola Run
Boiler Room
If....
Gangsta No 1 (actually anything with Mr McDowell)

Twin Town - Awesome film, one of my favorites, sort of Welsh Trainspotting!! Helps if you live in or know Wales (especially South!)

Memento - Takes some concentration but worth it!!

Oh Brother Where Art Thou - Great Coen Bros film, based loosely on Homer's "The Odyssey"

Big Lebowski - Another all time favorite Coen Bros creation

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Superb, and about to be released on DVD in the UK on 5 Sept (even though it was made in '98?!?!)

Not all really "lesser known" but all worth a mention.

I'll think up some more......

For me, the ultimate petrolhead film, which I can't seem to find anywhere anymore , and is the inspiration for the current cross continent race, is The Gumball Rally (circa 1975).

I too was looking for this - there's a reasonable quality .avi version available for download on eMule if that helps.

"Grand Canyon".
&
"My life as a House".

I hated Kevin Kline as an actor until I saw these 2 films.

My life as a house is especially good.

Love that one, with Kristin Scott Thomas . . .

She's also in Gosford Park

I'd die for her . . . dunno why . . . I guess she's my Khamsin.

The Machinist is pretty damn good.

Memento is better though.

And I thoroughly recommend Magnolia.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm...

Requiem for a Dream is excellent.

Old Boy if you like Japanesey stuff.

Bubba Ho Tep is interesting and fairly funny (although not as funny as I'd expected, but it's still good).

don't know if it's been mentioned yet but BLOW is a brilliant film.true story of George Jung who went from small time drug dealer to one of the main players in cocaine importing in the US.

as a bonus it's on channel 4 at 10,well worth watching

also buy the DVD and there's shed loads of extra's on it including an interview with the man himself in prison

The Machinist was a great movie. How scary was Bale in that. The man must have starved himself for a year to get like that! Momento is good, but machinist pips it I'm afraid!

Hana Bi (not sure on spelling) it means fireworks

Japanese movie about top Tokyo cop who decides to rob a bank to treat his ill wife and injured partner. stars "Beat" Takeshi.

Agree with Amelie, and just about every other film here. Does anyone work (or drive their cars?)

As for christian Bale's condition for the machinist, watch him in Batman and it is even more incredible. Only 11months between filming i think.

The Falcon and the Snowman, with Timothy Hutton and Sean Penn.

Best spy movie I've ever seen; dramatic, gripping, and based on a true story.
