Good film, downbeat ending.
Haven't seen it in years but, yes, I remember it being fairly downbeat. yes

One thing that jarred about the film, though, is that the mirror world was so mirrored that even electricity flowed the wrong way, and so fried the protagonist's electronics when they connected a battery up to his ship for him. But... at what point during the journey from our Earth to theirs do the laws of physics reverse?
Or have I misremembered? It was a *very* long time ago that I last saw this film.
Randomly I've got that film on DVD. Time to revisit.

Good question, and remembered correctly.

I took it to make sense in a layman's way, but I can imagine how it bother someone with a bit of scientific knowledge.

Goldstone BBC IPlayer

Another film featuring the Aborigine detective from Mystery Road, shown a few years ago which I quite enjoyed.

He's back and is immediately thrown in the slammer for drink driving ( not that he is likely to hit anybody else on the road )
A little slow to start but it picks up as he investigates a missing girl who was ' serving ' the guys working on the local mining camp.
A novel change on the usual formula with the local cop potentially with his hand in the till but it comes together at the end.
I really now appreciate the barren out back could be so big.

I'll give it 8 portakabins / 10 dingos.

A modern Holywood remake would have a much different ending these days - basically Tom Cruise would run around to the other planet and kick its ass - then a sequel would come along where Tom Cruise has come back from the future to help run around and kick the other planets ass, and a prequel would be made to show how Tom Cruise became an astronaut by running around kicking ass.

Deeply confused and messily put together film. Was it filmed by 2 different directors and glued together? Apparently not, but it looks like that.

Mads and Hudgens scenes were downbeat and pretty ok. However who the fk thought Matt Lucas was in any way a good idea for the baddie role. If you want to see a superb menacing cartoon baddie, go watch 5th Element so Gary Oldman can show you how it is done properly.

The violence was unpleasantly boring and the sex scenes were tediously mediocre, added I suspect to raise their IMDB scores with teenage boys to a frankly laughable 6.4.

Odd, but not good. 3 corridor fights out of 10 old boys.

Kingsman - The Golden Circle on C4 the other night. Not bad, but I don't think it was as good as the first one.

Don’t watch too many Tom Cruise films do you?

Clearly a crisis of confidence would be part of the plot.

Watched one on Film 4 the other night called The Devil's Doorway . It's the story of two priests in early 60's Ireland who go to a remote Magdalene Laundry and investigate a supposed miracle with a blood weeping statue of the Virgin Mary. It's filmed in the found footage style. One of the girls is suppposedly possessed by the Devil and the nuns are trying to keep this fact hidden from the priests. Was watchable and worth seeing if you like that sort of film. 6/10.

I thought it was a mass of random bits from the pile of discarded ideas, with a couple of badly thrown together scenes glued on to justify getting certain characters back.

It also felt like they went out of their way to make sure they wouldn't be making any more of them - like someone had a three film contract, really didn't want to do it, so worked through killing off almost any possible route to another sequel apart from the most unlikely token effort they could tack on the end.

The first one is entertaining, this one is a turd and all involved knew it.

Zodiac which seems to have been on TV a few times recently, along with a lot of other repeated films. A decent film, I realised quite early on that I've seen it before, but still managed to sit through all of it.

Also had a stab at the Tom Cruise "War of the Worlds", which I've only seen part of before, but I couldn't stick it.

Not wrong there, I thought the first one was pretty good ,but the second was rubbish.

Vivacious Lady - black and white flick on iPlayer starring James Stewart and Ginger Rogers.

It auto-followed Goldstone which I watched following an earlier recommendation.

It's a typical comedy of manners and errors but hell, it's actually funny and well acted, when actors and actresses had personality and talent. Not PC and all the better for it. Just enjoy it.
I never rated Ginger Rogers but I think I was wrong.

It gets better with every viewing. Each time I spot a little nuance or look or dialogue that I missed before. Wonderful.

Terminator - Dark Fate Sky Movies

Linda Hamilton and Arnie back in a 2019 Terminator reboot wth a liquid metal terminator and an enhanced female sent back in time. Quite enjoyable with lots of action and all fhe terminator stuff you come to expect.

Better than I was expecting.

One thing got me though and if it was explained, then I missed it:

Sarah Connor stopped Judgement Day, and the enhanced girl who was sent back knew nothing of Skynet, then how could there be an Arnie terminator in this timeline who knew about Skynet if Sarah Connor stopped it?

Because wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff and also because the plot required it. smile

Interstellar

I'd never seen it before. I know there was supposedly a lot effort to make the science right with Kip Thorn consulting on it, but it seems they spent all the effort getting the right idea about the effect of gravity on time, and not anything else. So many plot holes and then it just descends in to general weirdness near the end.
