I’m sure he enjoys make videos, but I he is a businessman and if he is going to do something he will want to make money (he does a video once a year on YT trends so he clearly cares); I’m pretty sure I heard him say recently that he has decided to put more effort into youtube. It’s clearly more a hobby for him, and if it wasn’t making decent money he wouldn’t be doing it.

Harry is an expert, and has credibility and so people will watch the content for him/his opinions vs needing any flash editing. I also think he does it for fun and couldn’t really care less about YouTube trends etc as his main job is farming.
What makes him an expert?

Been a long time since she's done anything automotive related on YouTube, especially after that weird arrangement where she sold her channel and then ended up with it back, but Emma Walsh is now Sky Sport's first influencer ambassador... whatever that means.

She’s the very definition of ‘getting by on her looks’ because Christ she’s dull. I’d rather listen to Shmee talk about the colour of his pants or even Archie talk about the mods to his next car (hint- it’ll be black with some st Maxton Design body kit and cheap wheels).

I've always found her to be entirely style over any substance but maybe that's exactly what an 'influencer ambassador ' needs to be.

I can't imagine watching or engaging with anything she does but clearly plenty find her aspirational or whatever (much like TGE, though he does actually also have charisma).

Fair play to her for creating opportunities for herself, genuinely sure she's worked hard for it even if she's dull to watch!
This above has been re-quoted from the past because…

Exactly, so there's no place for these 'blokes woioi' discussing the looks of women. End of.

With how Tim Shmee150 is currently in America, I wonder if he even bothered to vote.

Seems like he values America's independence day rather than our voting.
Wow, this is a new low even from you where 90% of your posts are about shmee!

My guess is that a) you have another account and b) one day saw Shmee and you gave him a big girly wave but he didn't wave back smile
I refuse to believe Mr 87 is not STGs alt account that just throws in these clangers to cause some drama

Is Emma still doing that for Sky, because that was years ago.

So how many years does Auto Alex have left until he can be labelled an expert too?

So which journalist would you classify as an expert since you're the fountain of all knowledge?

Your tone is so sassy lol, we're only having a discussion.

But I'm pleased you're starting to ask the right questions now, after Harry is labelled an expert over Auto Alex, but the only difference between them is years they've been doing it.

So what is an expert?

To me a journalist can be labelled an expert in two ways, whether they're an expert in communicating how the car feels to drive or they are an expert driver from either a racing background or a car development background.

So to me, Henry Catchpole is an expert communicator.

But someone like Tiff Needell I would say is an expert driver.

My favourite car reviewer is probably Steve Sutcliffe, he only had a short racing career, but the way he communicates how a car feels is fantastic.

Happy to hear you out on what you think makes an expert?

Hadn’t seen or heard anything from/about her for what seems like a few years but weirdly, she popped up on my Instagram feed this morning after seeing her being discussed on here yesterday - looks like she’s got a role with F1TV as a trackside reporter. First one was Austria last week and again at Silverstone this weekend. Good luck to her, she’s probably worked long and hard to get to that gig. I think I’d probably be beside myself with excitement if I was in that line of work and was asked to do something like that.

I don’t think many would refer to Alex as an expert journalist or car reviewer. What he is very good as is producing entertaining YouTube videos though.

They are basically doing the exact same thing that they did on Car Throttle, but with slightly larger budgets. The same setup, the same format and the same gags. It clearly works for some folk, because lots of people have watched the video.
Not sure on the larger budget when Rory was saying they need to sell as much merchandise as possible to help with funding the trip.

AA is a motoring journalist by training afaik, studied it at uni and worked at a car mag before CT.

I imagine they are running on razor thin margins this year as the set up cost for all the new channels, the new storage unit and some big purchases (993/360). So merch/sponsorships are more important than ever.

Not sure why that post has been dragged up, I originally posted it more than two years ago...

Some become an expert through, training and experience; traditionally they would be print journalist, many of whom went into other areas of media.

Others, due to their occupation, although this very much depends on what the occupation is, Jason Plato’s view of a GT3 RS probably fairly valid; a Vauxhall Vectra, better of listening to Colin Smith, Fleet Manager, Xerox photocopiers.

Then you have the hobbyists who build up knowledge over time, some in general areas, others more specialised, the standard of these can differ immensely. That is not to say their content is any the less valid/enjoyable.

The content we watch often comes down to personal choice, the internet has democratised this, we now have a diverse choice, like we’ve never had before and we can chose, content I wouldn’t watch others might enjoy and vice versa.

[quote=SCJM21]For me it was 90% cinematic shots of them spread across the carriageway, it did lack in content and I started time-watching towards the end. I watched a BQR video prior to this of them fitting the engine to the E36 and enjoyed it 50x more.

Watched the BQR video last night. Josh and Andy have done really well with the engine build.

The channel has a natural energy and humour in a way Auto Alex can only dream of. I am thinking of their road trips to Wales or off roading exploits etc.

Agreed I watch different Channel for info and entertainment.

Harry Metcalfe for reviews and trips - his reviews are so consistent
Henry Catchpole for reviews - like you said a expert communicator
Car wow/ Mat watson for new cars plus drag races
Seen Though Glass for Lifestyle and his podcast.

I will give the rest a miss.

For me it was definitely a case of starting off with a very solid grounding in technical and narrative disciplines, but being an absolute rank amateur in terms of presentation, knowledge base of vehicles etc etc.... and that's what I have been working on (and continue) to develop.
