The GTR looks a prime candidate to raffle - it's the kind of poster car that would appeal to the type of person who gets sucked into these things.

My concern is that the GTR video wasn't' much different to the M3 one. Cut bits off, stick new bits on.

Not sure how much life there is in that kind of material but this latest one seems to be doing well.
In fairness, "cut bits off, stick new bits on" is his channel M.O

It's a bit like questioning how much life there is in the content that Shmee150 does buying and selling cars for his car collection - that's what he does....

The projects will just get bigger and more intricate. Wouldn't be surprised to see him (Armstrong) pick up a bona fide supercar needing work before long - Aventador or similar.

Isnt a 720s, 430 or Murcielago similar ?

I'm not sure what else people expect of a car repair video. "cut bits off, stick new bits on" is just how most cars are repaired.

Once again the rubble of discontent on folk that can only pick fault rather than enjoying the content for what it is. What a wonderful world we live in when people only want to moan and grumble about something that they are getting for free...... Is this just a UK thing? Are we just all so hard to please?

Anyway, enjoyed the video but for me the big shock was seeing the values of Gen1 GTRs, didn't think they commanded such a price tag. Was a bit shocked to see he paid £37k for this in the state it was in. Looks like a well (ab)used example.

I enjoyed the video. The whole done-in-24-hours thing was a little unnecessary, but I guess it's needed for algorithm and/or hype purposes.

The more cars he does, the more one wonders what the outlet for them all is

The Rolls-Royce, RS6 (which seems to have just disappeared) the Merc C63, this GTR - he can't keep them all and doesn't seem to be into raffling them all. Will some just get sold?
The Rolls Royce is at the bodyshop, RS6 is still in Florida and the C63 I suspect will be the next to go once fixed.

He has done plenty already.

Think they were £52k when they were first launched. Great value if you've held onto one and looked after it.

They only do it so that you can discontentedly moan and grumble. smile

I was staggered at the cost to buy the GTR and I own one!

If Matt had done this work over a couple of videos I am sure he would have got accused of dragging a simple repair out for more views.

I have seen a dozen GTR repair videos and still found this one interesting, obviously the 24 thing was an arbitrary challenge but it was entertaining.

I think that gearbox still has issues, my money is on the gearbox oil temp sensor being fubar and they are a pain to change - I know because mine failed a year or so ago.

And I would be sure this will end up being raffled and I will be buying a ticket smile

You might understand better if you were an early adopter.

Part of Mat's appeal to many of us is to see how he's grown from would be BMX bum through scruffy oik messing around with old cars with little idea of what he's doing to today where he has done some very impressive and complicated repairs to impressive and complicated cars.

The GTR video was really well done but Mat isn't frightened of tackling procedures he's not done before and this recent video was a bit same ol' same ol'.

In any case, my opinion and comment is irrelevant as it's all about viewing numbers and with over 1.5M since the video aired yesterday - it doesn't seem to be putting people off.

I'm not sure where the insurance scam came in - was he accusing the previous owner of damaging his own car as it had developed a transmission fault?
That's what I inferred.

I was surprised how cheap the battery was. It looked like a lithium battery, which I thought were much more expensive than lead-acid.

They take quite a small lead acid battery usually, for the garage queens people often fit the gel batteries that cost quite a bit more. If you don't use them or leave them without a trickle charger the batteries don't last long at all.

for reference the DBA cars (2011 onwards) were around £80k new, the original launch cars were the £52k price tag

It was also around a year since the accident so any battery would go flat , moving it around and on/off trailers after bump starting would cause the issues he had, I think he is jumping to conclusions

I wonder what Mat thinks when he reads all this ? I didnt even realise there was a thread purely for him so reading these various comments must be both happy / sad for him.

I like the guy, I like his videos and I look forward seeing his new videos in my sub list. I remember back to his Audi TT days and have watched him ever since. Yes there's always that thought about what the future holds, I even mentioned this in another thread to which replied so fair play to the guy. You have to say Mat keeps knocking them out the park :-)

Comparing Mat's videos to others I feel he keeps it grounded, real and he comes across as honest and transparent. I like AujtoAlex but at times I cant do the over acting / 8ull5hit bantz stuff which I feel falls flat. Just keep it real, true to yourself and the public like you.

Really enjoyed it, very standard Mat A fayre of course. All power to him pulling in those views.

My one gripe:

Start of the video:
"This time we're actually going to finish it in 24 hours"

End of the video
"Still tons left to do but we did it"

hehe

I think he knows to dismiss the noise for the constructuve feedback.

Related to a poster above.. is he running out of ideas though?

What else could he do to this format? I know he has long admired Mr Beast.. so I do see more challenge based things in the future.

I'd imagine he's pretty thick skinned, and he's pulling in huge viewing figures, so I'd hope he doesn't care too much. It may all dry up at some point, but if it does he'll be set for life by then, if he isn't already!

I really enjoyed the GTR video!

Seemed to go really quickly and didn't feel like a 50min video, which is always a good sign.

He appears to be getting very handy with bodywork now too. The fitment on that rear quarter looked spot on.
Yup. First one in ages that I didn't feel the need to skip anything.
