At what point does he need to register it over there? Surely it can't be in Florida on UK plates indefinitely and will need officially imported at some point
Is it not just a collection of pieces of metal until he wants to drive it on the public highway? I'm pretty sure that's how it is in the UK.

Is there import tax? I suppose when the car was shipped over there a bond was posted

Foreign residents can temporarily import a car for up to 12 months. The car has to be exported at the end of the 12 month period and cannot be registered or sold in the US without first being exported and reimported.

Was surprised to see how much he paid for the GTR - £37k for a Cat B with panel damage, a gearbox fault and scuffed wheels when clean cars are available for £55k?

If it was Cat B then it can't go back on the road.

Seems unlikely.

It was not a cat B, I am sure Mat said it was a cat S

I'd guess Cat S.

OK, so still on the register, with panel damage, a gearbox fault, scuffed wheels and from an auction, for £37k vs £55k clean?

It was a Cat S. The replacement door he bought was from a Cat B car, but that is not relevant to his car.

I think the video is super smart… a relatively easy fix with a catchy ‘24h’ tag… helps fill the time while gathering content for a longer update video on one of the big projects.

Even if he sold it and broke even it’s makes no difference. The content value is much higher than the cars value.

I enjoyed it.

1.8M views in the same amount of time it took to almost fix a GTR.

You mean a non-resident.

So actually he can't just leave it there for a year. Its a year or whenever he has left the US, which ever comes first. He left the US.

But if it's just an ornament, then surely registration is irrelevant.

I doubt it’s him personally importing the car. The car is likely owned by Mat Armstrong Ltd and was taken over primarily for SEMA/exhibition purposes.“It is prohibited to use this exemption primarily to conduct business“ would prevent this import clause.

In the same way we ended up with multiple pages over whether the raffles are okay, we probably don’t need the same over import status.. he’ll have someone to sort all that.

I am sure Mat said in a video he could not sell the car in the USA as it was never sold in the States new, by all accounts Audi never offered that model of RS6 in the USA.

Hence why he struggled to find a S/H engine, he had to use a RS5 engine I believe.

Also worth remembering that it is RHD.

It'll be prohibited from being registered there anyway, they have that 25 year rule in the US which is why R34s and the like are now rocketing in value.

Back on topic, I watched the GTR video tonight, another good watch, really impresses me how well put together and edited they are. Fair play for keeping going for 24 hours straight as well, I'd had enough on Sunday spending a couple of hours changing the discs and pads on my T5. hehe

Enjoyed the GTR video too. Like others have said the battery probably went flat after the ding. The accident was almost 12 months ago. It is though frustrating that insurance companies don’t repair these cars it might save us all a small fortune as they seem to write off too quickly. I bet COPART didn’t give anything like £37k for it.
