If you consider the building the two artists made in Spain where they reclaimed loads of stone and made the building look roman, that was stunning (to include the mosaic that they made themselves as well) (one of my favorite GDs, pipped only by the Castle)).
That's the point, though, it didn't look Roman, not remotely, it looked like the communal bar of a Four Seasons timeshare complex. The mosaics in those places are awesome. They will be organising tours to gasp at them in two thousand years, while drinking authentically recreated Bacardi Breezers, I'm sure.

On the other hand I thought the Italian castle with the rich couple who at least weren't pretending to be poor was brilliant - and though there was a good bit of fakery going on it was done carefully and you will have noticed the trouble they went to to reuse original parts where they could. And the castle in Yorkshire was pretty good, but you will notice that he more or less photocopied the details for his new bits out of a book on Lutyens. Visit Castle Drogo. Bits of it will look strangely familiar.

Re the banker, I thought he said he's not totted it up? Must have been a few quid though...
The look on his face when he said that screamed "bullcensored".

He knew exactly how much he'd spent, to the penny (seeing as that was his only involvement in the project anyway).

I think Oakey's got it right:

a) I'm a banker and in this current climate I'd rather not say as I don't want to be lynched

I would say so, and very sensible too.
