That has got to be the most awkward film I've ever seen. A real shocker which had me feeling sick afterwards.
It's so good I'd really rather not see it again! It's also got the least erotic sex scene possible.

Yes, someone else mentioned this and I shall too.

Brilliant film, brilliant cast (Lemmon, Pacino, Baldwin, Spacey), not sure why it wasn't bigger when it first came out (although I was quite young so might have missed it).

Akira

Superb film, first Manga film I saw, and the best

The final scene, especially the headmaster, is fantastic

Battle Royale

Truly disturbing. The sequel, however, is terrible.

Can I add:
Ran - Akira Kurosawa transports King Lear to Japan.

The Haunting - The original version, obviously. A proper horror film, without special effects.

The Eye/Jian Gui - Another disturbing film.

Zatoichi - Comic-book cut-em-up

The Happiness of the Katakuris - Just plain daft

Ichi The Killer

Hmm lots of Japanese ones there - not intentional, but they're all good.

Would it be really really nerdy if I brought up the subject of the difference between "manga" and "anime" and how it is a common mistake to interchange them?

Actually, I seem to remember a thread on this quite recently.

Oh, BTW, "Blood The Last Vampire" is indeed a great film and plivesey is a top bloke for lending it to me earlier in the year.

Wasn't Akira made by/released through Manga?

Ah, now you've done it.

- Manga is the comic books (still image).
- Anime is the moving image .
- Manga Entertainment Inc. is a company that distributes a lot of Anime and Manga to the USA and UK and is responsible for causing widespread confusion over what Anime is and result in people referring to Anime as Manga.

Aw shucks Jon . It was at least two and a half years ago though. Tempus has been fugiting.

You also forgot to add that Hentai is for perverts and that you keep your stash of it well hidden .

I havnt read the thread, but American Grafitti is high up on my list. Its a brilliant cult film about cars, coming of age, and cruising around town with some excellent rock and roll music. Very cool movie!

"The Beast of War" - Soviet tank crew hunted by Mujahaddin

"The Wicker Man" - celtic shenanigans

"Straw Dogs" - cornish shenanigans

"Don't Look Now" - deeply eerie

"Walkabout" - strange and beautiful

What about Big Trouble in Little China, way ahead of its time for clever humour!

On a more purile note, I still find the old Lucio Fulci films eminently watchable, Zomie Flesh Eaters, The Beyong, House by the Cemetary et al,,, all good, crap movies to kill an hour or two with a few beers!

Anyone seen "Bubba Ho-Tep"? I've been led to believe that it's very good, but I am still unsure about a film featuring Elvis vs The Mummy.

I though that Elvis was supposed to look like a Mummy in that film

I've seen that, worth watching just for the amusing hierogliphic subtitles.

Elvis (not dead), JFK (not dead either, and black) both live in a retirement home, that is attacked by some sort of mummy. Hilarious.
