Just watching Zodiac.

About the Zodiac killer (obviously). Got a good cast. Never really studied the Zodiac killer before. Pretty fked up individual.

Very much from the police and local press point of view.

The Hunt - 7/10

Really enjoyed this, it treads a strange line between gore, comedy and trying to say something about the state of the US, but it's good fun and well put together. I appreciated that it took a few turns that I wasn't expecting, it's certainly not a straight 'survival' movie and all the better for it.

The Forecaster

The story of Martin Armstrong, once a US based trillion dollar financial adviser, used the number pi to predict economic turning points with precision. When some big New York bankers asked him to join the club to help them to take over Russia. Documentary, with some big holes, but the actions of US justice system beggars belief. Worth it if you are in to this kind of thing, but leaves a lot of questions unanswered.
The more you see of the US justice system, the more it looks like a tin pot dictatorship. He was banged up in the same institution Epstein died in. Nothing has changed with regards to Russia and it's gangster state, people who step out of line are still being wiped out, just this week we have the latest Novichok attack. Nothing will change on that front, a bit of arm waving then on we go to the next one.

"Sully" was on BBC last night, a good film, I enjoyed it.
After the first five minutes I switched it off, just could not get into it.
It sort of starts backwards with the dramatic bits in the middle and towards the end whereas you expect the crash at the beginning and it can feel you’ve missed 30 minutes. Stick with it as it’s a decent film well played by Hanks.
I started off being a bit disappointed that it wasn't going in sequence, but stuck with it and enjoyed it.
I struggled with the first half hour whereas the last half hour was great.

It certainly does feel like that trying to stretch it out as a 90min movie was a struggle for an incident that only lasted for a few minutes there isn't much to go on.

TENET - Requires a second viewing / 10.

Seriously, wtf! One hell of a movie to get people back to theatres.
Yes agreed, saw it this morning.

Like other Nolan films you just don’t understand the significance of what you are watching at the time, which happens not to be linear.

At least one more viewing needed, maybe starting at the end instead of the beginning.
Saw this last night (I guess came out early in UK)? Totally agree needs a second viewing, and no alcohol. Good cast I thought (except the special ops guy towards the end), and my goodness how tall is the female lead!

The cinema was almost completely deserted thou - 7 of us in a 400 seat cinema.

Mulan

Thought it was pretty decent. Some great visuals and action scenes, plus it's got Donnie Yen and Jet Li in it. Don't understand the low ratings, I think adults should be barred from rating kids films laugh

Yeah I thought so a solid 7/10. It’s all subjective though. I for instance don’t like any zombie movies at all. Others love them.

Sully
On iPlayer, I gave it a chance after reading aboutbit on here and quite enjoyed it although I would criticise the flashbacks, out of sequence story parts and the sensational dream of crashing into buildings. Agree it would be difficult to stretch a 5 minute event into a 90min movie otherwise.
Tom Hanks was of course excellent.
7/10

American Gangster
On Freeview last night, I settled down to watch this right through from the beginning and as expected, it was a brilliant 3 hours of contemporary movie. Washington and Crowe were perfectly matched ( I read elsewhere they were not first choice for the lead characters ). Based on a true story it was incredulous and the outcome not what I expected although a very satisfying ending.
I'm a bit squeamish seeing all the needles tho.

It’s also on Netflix sans adverts and the inevitable cuts.

Been watching cobra Kai and planning to revisit the original movies.

Currently watching Went The Day Well (1942) again.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035429/?ref_=ttfc_fc...

It's on again on the week on TPTV.

If you've never seen it I can't recommend it strongly enough if you like a war movie. Think an older, better The Eagle Has Landed.

If the brutality - for 1942 - doesn't take your breath away then you aren't breathing. It helps to see it as a public information film called "How To Kill Germans With What You Have To Hand".

I assume it had some pass from the censor to be more violent than normal, as it really is unusual for the period.

Agreed. Another outstanding film of the period, documented by a short BFI book. Because it might cause worry, Churchill was minded to censor it's release. The start with an introduction by the church warden is particularly intriguing to draw you in.
The location of Turville is also used by the Vicar of Dibley, and is on my list of 'must visit' one day.

That's interesting: I'd always assumed it was deliberately violent as almost a public information film on How To Kill Germans With What You Have Lying Around.

Doctor Sleep

A film with a hell of a lot to live up to.

And it didn't. Far too long and far too flimsy.

IMDB gives this a 7.4. My 'will not watch unless it scores...' is 6.2.

For me, it was a 5.9 - most of the enjoyment, quite frankly, coming from the wonderfully fragrant Rebecca Ferguson.
