If the roof saved a notable amount of weight I’d agree - but the Spyder RS weighs only 25kg less than the GTS 4.0 with PDK and has carbon panels to achieve that. I doubt the roof saves any weight at all. It’s an affectation.

The sound is amazing and if the bonnet were painted I’d love the looks, but for a car intended for the road not the track, I think the roof is too much of a style over substance change.

Conceptually it's a Boxster without a roof, and with that sort of tent as a get you home measure. If you want a proper roof, get a normal one. If you live somewhere the sun shines a lot and you have a garage, buy this.

Amazing engine note but am I the only one who thinks 1400kgs for a 2 seater "lightweight" car with no roof decidedly weighty?

Much like BMW, Porsche don't do "lightweight". I remember thinking what a heavy thing my old Z4M Roadster was at around 1485kg. I think my 370Z Roadster weighs around 1550kg too.

Thank goodness I've got the Caterham at only around 550kg though! biggrin

It would be 1400.05kg if they hadn't replaced the door pulls with straps, though. Serious weight saving there.

Really, it's sod all to do with weight, it's a styling exercise.

Its odd because I am sure I remember an older HG episode where he weighed a 718 version of a Boxster and it came in just under 1,300 KG. Still no lightweight, but when you consider the original 986 Boxster 2.5 weighed 1242KG in 1996, actually pretty decent considering the weight rises that have generally taken place since the mid 90s...

Alpine of course make a car that is around the 1100KG mark but it seems to not appeal to Porsche owners.

I was amused when Harry mentioned you could option magnesium wheels to save an extra 10kg, but didn't mention they cost £11.5k!

I had to do a double take at that too. I know Porsche are known for costly options, but goodness me.

Maybe the "it's all so bloody expensive it's ridiculous" is just taken as implied these days.

It is pretty bonkers. I’ll easily save 10kg and £11.5k on my Porsche by:
1. Going to the toilet before I leave the house
2. Be a bit less of a fat knacker
3. Put a bit less petrol in it.

not for a modern car with modern safety standards and high chassis rigidity. By comparison, Harry's ex Emira was some 60 kg heavier.

Emira costs how much, by comparison? Likewise, the non-lightweight McLaren 750S which has 50% more power is lighter.

As is the majority of the Carbon.

It's quickly becoming a bit of a running joke. Cosmetic carbon pieces that add nothing but cost thousands and save grams on fat ton and half cars.

Not sure why it's derided when it's aftermarket but lauded when it's OEM.

They weigh about the same, but...
Mclaren si double the price, actually probably more than that.
Plus, one has to remember, the 718 is actually a slight restyle of the 981, a car that is now 12 years old and is made mostly of steel(the carbon bits are non structural/eye candy mostly).

And now off sale in Europe as Tom Cruise could hack into the car on his iPhone from the car behind.

It's probably due replacement, no? In which case it'd possibly cost more to fix it than to wait a short while. Maybe.

A clear cut, unambiguous Brexit benefit. Wow!
