The McLaren is a lot quicker on paper, and probably even more so in the real world.
1/4 mile in 10.4 vs 11.3
In fact the 650S accelerates faster than a McLaren F1 in all increments up to 140mph.
Numbers are one thing, the sensation is another.1/4 mile in 10.4 vs 11.3

Cars with manual transmissions lose ~0.5s on every shift, while cars with DCTs lose nothing.

I am a huge Harry fan and always enjoy watching his weekly videos. I did understand his “falling out of love with the company” explanation regarding Lotus in the video straight away, so moving on after what seemed like a short period of ownership, while a bit of a surprise, wasn’t all that shocking. Watching the McLaren road trip he did a few months ago made the purchase also unsurprising. In all candour though, I found the selection of this particular car a bit of a disappointment. Like Harry, I dislike black cars, but I also dislike paint colors that “read” as black most of the time unless they are in bright light, as this one is, a sin many manufacturers are guilty of. Then when I saw all the carbon fiber bits that were mostly for flash than function, I raised my other eyebrow, as it didn’t seem the kind of thing an English country gentleman would go for. Finally when he opened the door to show the yellow McLaren graphics on the sill It was a bit much. Perhaps that could be fixed with some black tape overlays. Hopefully the driving experience will overcome all those things. An interesting road ahead no doubt!

yeah, he will have to protect all that CF(if it isn't already protected) if he means to use it as most of his other cars and do road trips abroad. I do remember he criticized similar CF parts on that McLaren GT he tested before, but I guess he was probably somewhat limited in choice and wanted the best car he could find, CF parts or not.Venisonpie said:
Interesting review of the Boxster, the drivetrain is epic but I really don't like the rest of the car. Given how close in price it is with the 650s the latter is a more desirable option IMO.
Quite, although whilst purchase price may well be similar, I suspect costs in terms of insurance, servicing etc to be a significant difference, although I could be wrong! Venisonpie said:

It sounds great and appears to drive sublimely but it's a bit of chunky, inelegant thing. More warthog than gazelle. SydneyBridge said:
Love the Porsche, as long as you can leave the roof down and never have to touch it
Literally a 60 second job and very much part of the character of the car. Glad Harry didn’t do the stupid Top Gear style roof nonsense. After doing it once or twice, it really is a very simple process.
Unfortunately don’t have the Spyder RS, but roof on my 987 Spyder is near enough identical in how it works.
Recently grown really fond of using it with roof on and the rear panel off and windows down. Did most of Le Mans weekend that way (and because it was drizzle most times whilst driving).
The sound of that RS is lovely. For me, a manual gearbox would make it even better. They do look good in the Vanadium grey or GT silver paint option. Goes well with the extra carbon fibre.
Bloody hell, 500hp in a Boxster! Should be epic to look at too though...sadly not. I regret I dozed off a bit.
Sorry Harry. May we have some old metal, a pub trip in the Rolls, update on the farm fleet, deep dive on tractor pto tools, bikes, stone walls, anything but more new BMWs, Porsches and Range Rovers please?
