Under Paris (aka Jaws in Paris hehe ) first things first.... yes it is st. It doesn't have the same budget or production values as 'The Meg', but it is fun in a televisual wallpaper kinda way with (to me) quite a surprise ending.
I want to watch it purely because of Netflix's ad on Twitter which said 'Under Paris - this is going to be In Seine' rofl

Brilliant, I have it on my watch list already after the trailer.

Apologies for the cross-post but, just to add to the various discussions about Godzilla Minus One, I thought this article by Den of Geek was very good.

Scavengers Reign

Animated sci-fi thing, lots of weirdness. Did well with critics, very strong style to it, apparently similar to Moebius' work but also reminded me of some Japanese stuff.
You had me at Moebius. I will have to watch this
It's got a very Japanese vibe to it. I find it strangely unsettling, but is compulsive viewing, although I can only watch 2 episodes at a time.

I finished Iron Reign last night (with sub-titles) It was alright. Spanish narco-crime 8 parter with some fit birds in it.

Possibly the dullest review ever!

Triangle of sadness
If you like Arty films this is for you, wonderfully odd yet fascinating film that lures you in to bathe in its craft.

The Invitation
Totally different, but the lead female is the most beautiful woman in the world and for me it was up there with Interview with a Vampire for its brilliant take on Dracula...

Enjoy.

Posted my review in films you watched this week. Loved it. One of the best films I've seen this year. Funny, sexy, heartfelt, original. Just brilliant.

Since Dexter is back on Netflix I have been doing a re-watch and my thoughts after watching the first three seasons and I will try and avoid spoilers.

Season 1. Season 2 was my favourite back in the day but on re-watch I have to appreciate the quality of the writing in this season and the almost complete absence of irrelevant or annoying side plots. This was heavily based on the writing of the books and IMO it almost always shows when these TV shows can have an actual writer to base themselves on.

There is a very good reason why the storyline lasts until the end and the show doesn't have to come up with contrived reasons to keep things going until the end, or the padding in the form of side plots that afflict the likes of season 3.

Acting performances are all strong and they commit to the character of Dexter. Season 1 is the only one that seems to get under my skin as well with the ITK and I have had a bad dream the last two times I have watched the last few episodes, ten years apart.

Dexter was a very popular show but I think Season 1 is probably the only season that stands comparison with the all time greats.

Season 2. This was my favourite when initially watching for the simple reason that they used the "will Dexter be caught card" and all of the excitement that inevitably brings. This also is a season that doesn't suffer from the problem Dexter seasons often have of resetting after the previous season. Everything in the first season flows into this one and has consequences.

Add in some great Doakes/Dexter interactions and it was still a great and exciting watch on re-watch.

Why would I rate this probably a 9 when the first season was a 10. Well some of the writing was somewhat contrived and in the end it was all too neat for Dexter.

Structurally this could have probably been a later season and then later developments could have followed organically rather than being picked up again years later.

Season 3. The good points are a great acting performance from Jimmy Smits and it tries to evolve the character of Dexter. Negative points are many, from the side plots of side characters degenerating almost into a soap at times, to how the season drags until the last few episodes. The above parts are connected of course as the main plot didn't need 12 episodes to cover its main plot and so had a number of episodes that needed to be bloated or dragged out.

At present my rankings would be

S1
S2
S4
S5
S3
S7
S6
.
.
.
.
S8

If you never watched it at the time highly recommended to try now.

We're re-watching Dexter too - just as good second time around. Nearly at the end of S3 but from memory I'd rank S4 (Trinity killer / John Lithgow) no.1
Also the title sequence (theme and cinematography) is still one of the best of all time.

It was dross, IMO. Really slow, really boring and really stupid.

first time watchers here, we enjoyed s1, not so much s2 and s3 had its moments - but things with Smitts felt forced to me, just about to start on s4

5/10 for me started off ok then just got slow and didn't care about anyone as no real back story existed

What were your expectations about a low budget film about a giant killer shark in Paris swimming around eating people?

I was hoping it'd be brain-out fun, but I thought it was brainless tedium.

This

Megalodon in the Seine could have been fun, but this was just tedious.
