How about Alexander Dreymon - the lead in the Last Kingdom. I think he'd be perfect.

Or Jack O'Connell

Or Michael Billington from UFO

Didn't he hold the record for number of auditions for Bond without ever getting the part?

Watched all of UFO on Blu-Ray recently. It's surprisingly good at times, amongst the cheesiness, purple moon wigs, string vest nipple shots and Steven Berkoff as an Interceptor pilot.

yes He was the producers first choice before Connery but he said a spy would not drive a flash car, not be a womaniser would generally keep a low profile plus he didn't want to carry a gun.

Sidney Poitier, intelligent, suave and sophisticated; everything a 'Bond' needs to be.
