Like most people I got this on free trial with a new phone.

I’ve finished Long Way Up (which was good although it felt a bit rushed towards the end).

Apart from the as far as I can tell it is Ted Lasso, For All Mankind and err....

Not enough to fill 12 months!

I’m looking forward to the new series of Ted Lasso and the music documentary series 1971 is pretty good. I gave up on Tehran after a few episodes… For All Mankind is exceptional but they need much more of that quality.

I can only think they’re planning on ramping up the content while so many have a free year’s subscription.

Either that or they’ll use Apple TV to lure people into an Apple One subscription. A bit like the Arcade or News+ - they don’t make much sense on their own but if they’re bundled “free” with stuff you do use - Music and iCloud storage, then why not…?

Tehran is great too. Apart from that and Ted Lasso, there's not that much of interest to me.

It is a problem, as there is so little on there, I rarely open the app to even browse. Also, it's not immediately clear what's paid for in sub and what you pay for.

I only watch what I have done as it was free. When that runs out, I won't be subscribing. If after that there are new series of the titles I did like, I would just pay for 1 month a year and binge.

Quality over Quantity is all well and good, however it takes the same amount of time to watch an hour show, regardless of quality. So once you've watched all you want to, why pay for the other 10months of the year....

There's also enough quality things on the other services that far outweigh what's on ATV+.

I suspect when all these free trials end, there won't be much take up, esp in comparison to Netflix/Disney+/etc. which has far more to offer, and in the case of Disney+ at the same price too as ATV+. Disney+ bought in Star which has loads of titles, some great too (new ones too such as Big Sky etc.)

At the moment, ATV+ I would value at £2 a month, there's simply not enough on there to justify any more.

They cocked up that too IMO.
Music at £10 - fine, lots of people use it a lot and unlike AppleTV, there's LOADS of content.
iCloud storage £2.50 so not much.
ATV £6 - not enough content, not anywhere near enough, regardless of quality of small number of shows already there.
News+ £10 - why? For less you can subscribe to a mag or newspaper and who subscribes to more than 2 titles a month anyway? Not many.
Arcade £5 - maybe for the kids, I had free trial and barely used it.
Fitness £10 - not many people would want that.

For £20, you don't even get News+/Fitness+. It's £30 for the rest, which given most people won't want all (esp Arcade) then it's cheaper to sub individually.

So, for an ALL in sub, if it was, say £15/20 I might pay for ALL in one. Rarely people would want ALL the services, they're the only ones who save any money with apple one sub. Maybe if a household might see a little saving, that's about it.

Agreed, Apple News is garbage and no way is that worth £10/month. Readly all the way for me which is fantastic value. As above, once my TV sub runs out, it'll be month long subs and binge watching. Apple Music is very good (apart from the interface) but I'm unlikely to move from Spotify.

O/T but if you’re paying for Readly it might be worth seeing if your library uses the Libby and/or Press Reader apps.

Log in with your library card and there are loads of magazines, newspapers and books there.

Yes there are a couple missing but at £0/month nothing I can’t live without…

Top tip, thanks. I’ll look at that. I’d don’t begrudge Readly 7.99 a month, it saves me a fortune and I like to browse through stuff I’d never buy in the shop. Plus some of the non-UK mags are interesting.

I quite enjoyed Mythic Quest but I think it's run it's course after the 2nd series. I keep meaning to try the for all mankind but the other services have so much more ATV+ is an afterthought. I won't be renewing after my year runs out unless something epic comes along.

Looking forward to Ted Lasso P2.

Agree with most here. Apple TV is definitely a case of quality over quantity. Not huge amounts to watch but most of the stuff that is there is worth watching. One program i am surprised nobody has mentioned is Trying. Absolutely perfect feel good British TV.

Very good recommendation. Also good for e-books and audiobooks.

I'm currently commuting to the dulcets of Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse blathering about fishing, all courtesy of the library.

I’m enjoying Ted Lasso except for one thing.

Why is the ground a pitch with one stand whenever they are training but on match days it has four massive stands?

Am I missing something?

Is that a serious question?
Clubs have training grounds, all of them.

I’m aware of that, but they always seem to be in the same place in the show. It seems to magically transform from training ground to full stadium.

For example they go from training to the same change rooms they use during matches, but there is no sign of a huge stadium in the outside shots club. Maybe I’m just not paying enough attention.

IMHO you are over thinking it - it's just a light heared comedy about a football club - the fact the training ground/stadium arrangements don't quite align isn't really the point of it.

For All Mankind - wow wow wow. I was lucky enough that I could binge season 1 and half of season 2 before catching up with the latest episodes released weekly. The 75 minute finale of season 2 that was released yesterday is an absolute masterpiece. The people working on it should be extremely proud of what they’ve produced. And the teaser for season 3 at the end had my jaw on the floor.
I’ve only just caught up with this. Absolutely outstanding. Seems I’ll have to subscribe after all - I don’t think I’d be able to wait and binge S3 at the end.

Good thread and I appreciate the almost complete absence of spoilers, even after eighteen or so months!

We subscribed, mainly to watch Ted Lasso but also because the context is so richly produced and of high quality.

I don't spend a great deal of time committed to TV, so when I do pick something up I generally want the content to be varied and interesting.

HOME, a non-fiction series, is very nice and it a fly-on-the-wall Grand Designs, if you like.

In the coming soon section, there is a series called 'The Shrink Next Door' with Will Ferrell. It appears from the trailer that the narrative, based on a true story, has sinister undertones:

"Inspired by the true story of Marty and the therapist who turned his life around...then took it over. When he first meets Dr. Ike, Marty just wants to get better at boundaries. Over 30 years, he'll learn all about them—and what happens when they get crossed."

Oh, and I didn't realise either that the chairperson from Ted Lasso is the GoT "shame!" actress until recently laugh

That’s For All Mankind ticked off the list, outstanding - can’t wait for a new series of that, one of the best things I’ve seen on TV in ages…
