The Trevor Wilkinson Centenary TVR Drive It Day – 14th May
Discussion
Many of you heading up to Blackpool to join the Blackpool thunder club this Sunday
To mark the occasion, Blackpool Thunder Car Club is holding The Trevor Wilkinson Centenary TVR Drive It Day, where Blackpool Thunder members and TVR owners will be hitting the roads and driving their cars to honour the memory of TVR’s founder.
Born in Blackpool in 1923, Trevor Wilkinson left school at 14 and started an engineering apprenticeship at a local garage. In 1947 Trevor founded TVR Engineering in an old wheelwright’s workshop in Beverley Grove, Blackpool. Just two years later TVR No.1 had been built and when Trevor pressed the button to fire up the Ford side-valve engine for the first time, he unleashed the first rumble of Blackpool Thunder. Sadly TVR No.1 no longer exists, however TVR No.2 is still proudly on public display at the Lakeland Motor Museum in Backbarrow, Cumbria.
Join Us On Sunday 14th May 2023
On Sunday 14th May 2023 Thunder regions across the country will be organising runs in honour of Trevor, while the North West, Cumbria, Yorkshire and High Peak Regions will be coming together for a special day to pay their respects:
Blackpool to Cumbria Convoy - Beverley Grove & TVR No.2
Gathering at the site of the old TVR Factory at Bristol Avenue for 11.45am, at 12 noon the Northern convoy of TVRs will drive the 6 mile route along Blackpool Promenade and past Blackpool Tower to the site of Trevor’s first workshop at Beverley Grove, where TVR No.2 was born. After a short stop at Beverley Grove the convoy will continue on a further 60 miles to the Lakeland Motor Museum to meet TVR No.2 in person.
The day will be a celebration of all things Trevor. We will be joined on the day by ex-TVR employees who will be convoying with us to re-visit both Beverly Grove and TVR No.2, and we anticipate a healthy turnout of TVR drivers who wish to pay their respects to the man who ignited our thunderous passion.
We look forward to seeing you in Blackpool, and far and wide, to mark this one-off event; The Trevor Wilkinson Centenary TVR Drive It Day – 14th May 2023.
There is no need to register for this event – we look forward to seeing you on the day. And All TVRs are welcome.
