Powerfest at Melbourne Raceway
Discussion
If you are looking for a weekend of fun with the family then maybe the place to be on the 6th till 8th June could be Melbourne Raceway (formerly York). Postcode is YO42 4SS. Gates open from 2pm Friday 6th for camping.
This drag strip has gone from strength to strength since it was resurrected by Trevor Duckworth, the straightliners crew, the former York marshals and fundraising from racers and race fans alike.
The 1/8th mile track is smooth and the braking area has recently been extended to allow the faster cars to run at full pace and brake safely. All facilities are greatly improved thanks to regular volunteer weekend parties. A large clubhouse is being constructed that will be a focal point and provide entertainment.
This weekend has the VW owners club bring 'Powerfest' which is a mini festival in itself with a large marquee with kids entertainment and great live music all weekend. Various stalls, great food and lots for the kids to do.
You can pay at the gate or save a few quid by booking ahead. Just look for the Straightliners website and the Melbourne page.
More information can be seen on the dedicated powerfest.uk website.
I look forward to seeing plenty of TVRs in attendance. Come say hi. Look for my blue Chimaera in the race pits. Bring a helmet, you may be tempted to put your car on the track in RWYB.
