"Thrills in the Hills" TVR run 2017. Sat May 27th

" THRILLS IN THE HILLS "
( This is TVR,s 70th Birthday year, lets aim for 70 TVR,s on this run to celebrate ) we aimed for 70 and got exactly 100.....

The High Peak TVR car club are once again hosting the very popular "Thrills in the Hills" Peak District TVR run. In May 2016 we had 60 TVR,s on this run and we are hoping for at least 70 this time to celebrate TVR,s 70th Birthday year.
This run takes us through some of the best of the Peak District scenery and on some of the best driving roads. We have blasts across the moors, winding twisting country roads, scenic towns and villages, re-group points and turn points (great for videoing all the cars) and amazing Peak District scenery along the way. Part of our afternoon run takes us on the A515, the 1950s Proposed Road Race Circuit for the Peak District. Imagine Jaguar D-types, Ferrari Monzas, Aston Martin DBR1s and 300S Maseratis fighting it out over a fast, narrow road circuit looping over high hills. A circuit almost as long as the old Nürburgring, with every sort of corner and hazard from stone walls and off-camber curves to a narrow bridge under a railway. A circuit in England, on the Queen's Highway. Some of this is part of our "Thrills in the Hills" run.  
If you arrive early at http://www.hassopstation.co.uk/ you have the choice of breakfast before leaving and we have a planned lunch stop at http://www.theknightstable.co.uk/ . The finish location is the stunning http://www.monsalhead.com/ with its fantastic views.
A great TVR day out not to be missed. START HASSOP STATION CAFE DE451NW meeting from anytime 9am onwards, START EXACTLY 10:30am.
We had people from all parts of the UK with us last year. Why not make a weekend of it and stay over for the Nomads Sunday meet at The Fox House, Hathersage Road, Longshaw, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S11 7TY

I have done both the Peak district hills and the Surrey hills, there is really no comparison, The Peaks are by far the most beautiful scenery and best driving roads, the Surrey hills are full cyclist's and Range Rover Overfinch's

We went on this run last year for the first time and it was a great day - so we are coming again - all the way from Dorset!

Speaking as a person who lives in the Surrey Hills, I mostly agree with you.

As in, full of cyclists and Range Rovers!

Actually, it is just full of everything apart from the beautiful hills, which are fairly empty ( apart from the blight of mountain bikers) due to the fact that most of the population never exercises and leaves it free for the likes of my wife and me!

There is a good review in the January Sprint magazine from last years run. We are hoping for more than 60 this time.....

Unfortunately Les may not be able to join us this year, as we can fully appreciate this will be a very busy year for him and the TVR team. But a very nice reply from Les.

Thanks very much for the email and for your kind invite to the event in the Peak District.
 
Having driven around the Buxton area a few times, I can understand what a great driving experience it would be to be with a group of fellow TVR owners, roaring through beautiful countryside on some magnificent and iconic roads. Sadly though, it is likely I will have to pass on this occasion, as pressure mounts on the approach to launch of the new car!
 
Hopefully next year will be less frantic (although I have my doubts!!) and I’ll be able to get to more of the club events.
 
If I happen to find myself at a loose end on the 27th though (i.e. not poring over drawings, choosing paint colours, wondering how to stop the back wheels smoking, etc.), I’ll be sure to join you.
 
Hope it goes well for the 2017 season and you all get to celebrate the 70th anniversary in style.

I've stuck this in the diary, haven't driven mine in the Peaks yet so looking forward to it.

I am a bit concerned about the number of cars in the pictures with their roofs up. Have you used some complicated editing software to remove the signs of the hurricane-level storm that would have justified such behaviour? ;-)

Looks like a great place to stay Rik and on part of our route, we are going past the front door.
Road book........A roadbook is a diagrammatic book typically used by rally co-drivers and overland travelers to navigate across uncertain terrain. Usually, the roadbook consists of several pages of tulip-diagrams, GPS co-ordinates and written instructions to assist in navigation.
In rally sport, the term pacenotes is more usual.
