Hi, I'm overseas working just now and noticed the TV in my appartment can support/accomodate connections to a PC, via RS232 (?) and an Audio lead. Has anyone tried this, and if so should I experience any problems viewing/watching AVI files??? I'm not that clued up on these things, but am I not just using the TV as a monitor then?? Sorry but I cannot remember the model number of the television in case that bears any relevance, but it is brand new if that helps in general?!?! The instruction manual is present but doesn't mention specifically a preference to file type.

I doubt the TV has an RS232 socket, VGA maybe. Anyway if your laptop outputs via VGA the the TV will certainly accept it. You will need a VGA to VGA lead and the Monitor will probably have to be told to output to the secondary monitor. You will also need to switch the TV to the appropraite AV channel and you may need to alter the display setting for your graphics card as they probably won't match the TV.

It's not an RS232 connector, it is VGA, a standard 'Monitor' cable will work. Check there is access to the VGA input on the hotel TV, sometimes they block it.

Thanks for the replies. Fortunately it's a rented appartment so not a hotel, I know they sometimes block things for use by public.

Sorry, I thought it was an RS232 socket, do they look similar, or am I way off the mark!! Lol. Not too clued up on this type of thing!! wink

The instruction manual is with the TV, and from what I can gather, I need the VGA cable and a cable to connect from my laptop (headphone socket???) to the TV for sound as well???

Ha ha, yes. You will probably find the TV runs in either 720p or 1080p (maybe not though, could be 1366 x 768). It will still work if you don't alter the resolution it will just look rubish. It's quite easy just right click on the desktop area an select graphics properties, or screen resolution or something similar. It varies depending on what operating system and Graphics card you have. With regards to sound yes you will need a cable from the sudio output of the Laptop to the input on the back of the telly, just a 3.5mm jack I guess.
