Evening all.

My DVD player is on it's last legs. It's just not playing any DVDs.

It currently has 5.1 surround which is excellent and i run everything through it, PS3, Sky, the lot.

So i guess if i have to replace it i may as well get a blu ray.

So, what's your thoughts, i'm not wanting to spend mega money and i suppose have the option of replacing almost like for like and using PS3 for blu ray.

Cheers,

D.

If I was in your shoes I would carry on using your PS3 for DVD and blu-ray duties. As a blu-ray Sony keep the updates coming to keep it on top of its game, so you really couldn't ask for more.

On the surround sound front I went for a Onkyo's cheapest system in Feb and it really is a quality piece of kit for just under 300 quid.

This is the sort of thing.

It would serve you well and the sound quality is excellent for what your paying.

Good advice, but i think i'm paranoid about killing my PS3, we put a lot of DVD's through it for the 2 year old hatchling, and the fan seems to be on full tilt an awful lot, i find myself watching for a little yellow light.

And i was hoping to bag a full blu ray and 5.1 system for £300! /Tight Scotsman.

I'm glad I'm not on my own with that. I have a fat 40 gig PS3 and it makes a noise like a harrier taking off when you play a DVD on it. Its fine with games and Blu-rays though, so work that out.

I know where your coming from on the combi-system though. However, you can pick up a blu-ray player for about £80 or so and that Onkyo set up would be probably all you ever need.

Best of luck though fella on whatever you decide to do.
