Entry level budget hi fi

looking at getting a half decent sounding hifi and want seperates but on a limited budget.
Considering the Onkyo system that Richer sounds have in at £399 which seems to tick all the boxes or see if i can put together some clearence stuff or even secondhand.
I want simple controls - no fidley little buttons and may add an ipod dock at some point if i ever get one. just need cd player, amp and speakers.
Just had a look on the bay Rotel amps look very tempting.
Thought this would be done to death on here have searched but people only seem to want telly's
