What sort of spec would you guys recommend for the PC, I have never looked into this before therefore have no idea where to start.

Mainly to play online content, BBC iplayer, Spotify etc. I have a load of movies on an external hard drive that I would like to play through the TV. Bluray would be a nice addition.

Connected to the TV already I have a 5.1 HiFi system, DVD player, Sky and a video player.

What I need to know is when connecting the PC to the TV, will HDMI be the connecting cable and also will I need an additional sound cable to play sound from the PC through my HiFi?

Are you dead set on a PC?

Have you considered either a games console (PS3 etc) that you can connect your HDD to, and use to play iPlayer etc, or perhaps a dedicated Sony Blu-Ray player, which will also allow you to connect a USB drive, and stream internet media??

I bought an Asrock HT1000 thingy. I think there's a new model coming out soon with similar specs but better/newer processor.

I'm extremely happy with it, connected to TV via HDMI and to Home Cinema via digital out. Very small, light, great picture (even has a Blu Ray drive).

Paid about 600 quid, had to add Win 7 and wireless keyboard and mouse.

Or to throw another option into the mix a Popcorn Hour. I have heard these are very highly rated.

I use a PS3 to stream downloaded films from my NAS and play Blu-ray so can recomend this option.
