OK so i've done a bit of reading on the net and it seems the info is very contradictory and some is quite old and I know the game has moved on a bit in the last year or so... which is currently better, and which will be better in the imminent (i.e. within a year) future out of Freesat HD and Freeview HD?

Do I need a dish for freesat?

What about recording (its a PVR box I am looking at), can this be done in HD on both?

Yes with the correct equipment you can record in HD on both. In my opinion Freesat HD offers a better picture, I have both on my panasonic G20. I also belive the SD picture is better on freesat.

come to think of it i may have a dish... it could well be several years old though and is not currently used. I wonder how I would work out if its suitable?

Also, I thought of another question... what is the situ with channels, as in what ones are missing from either... would I miss out on something I like from SD freeview in either freeview HD or freesat?

Look at the websites, they have channel listings.

I'll differ and say that the HD picture on my G20 was better with freeview. May simply be down to the quality of my siganl reception though. Freesat has teh advantage of access to i-player (although still in beta). As I have a G20 it's irrelevant as I have access to both (actually it all irrelevant as I have SKY HD).
