As per title really. Have the Panasonic plasma on way bit have been told I need a 1.4 hdmi lead to get full 1080p signal. Only have a 1.3 at moment not bothered about going into a amp just the tv. Do I really need to buy this or am I fine?

Not unless it's 3D, no.

Thank-you so much. Looking forward to tonight even if the wife has picked some Disney film to watch first on it.

Matt, to be quite honest i've used every crap lead in our rubbish box at work, and do you know
what? they all pass 3D without any probs, obviously there's picture quality differances but they
all work.

From what I understand V1.4 cables will be needed if broadband is included in the HDMI signal

Its this old chestnut again. Basically since the dawn of HDMI the actualy wiring of the HDMI connector has never changed , still all the same pins connecting to all of the same pins (there are a couple of pins that were originally NC and are now used for v1.4+, but even so lots of early leads had thses pins connected).
What has changed is the Data and Data speed that travels along the lead. Each time there is a significant change in data speed (and content of the data hedder) then a newer verson was released.
So a V1 lead is guaranteed to work at V1 speed, a V1.3 lead is guaranteed to wark at V1.3 speeds or less. BUT when V1 was released it couldnt be certified at V1.3 speed because it didnt exist, there is nothing to say that it wont perform at V1.3 speeds it was just never tested.
The same goes for V1.4, assuming (i think pin 14 is what i am talking about) is connected then its quite possible that a V1.3 lead would work at full spec V1.4. Even if pin 14 isnt connected then it can still work but without the ethernet function.
Where the certification does come in handy is when you are using longer leads, its nice to know you can buy a V1.4 lead to work a specific length where an untested lead may only work at lesser lengths.

So yes I can believe how a box of crappy leads will work with 3D, but where it matters they are not guaranteed. You bury one of those in your wall and its your own fault when you have to dig it out again wink
