My Sky HD box is on the blink and i don't really want to pay to replace it.
I've thought about leaving Sky, but the one thing I'd miss is the Premiership football (Sky Sports).

Virgin are not cabled in our area and we don't have Freeview coverage either, so I believe this rules out BT Vision as well.
Are there any other alternatives - i.e. something that could be fed from satellite which would also enable me to get Sky Sports?

Short answer, no! You could get a Freesat system, but you won't get Sky Sports. Are you sure you cannot get Freeview?

Live down the bottom of a steep hill, previously there was a 20 foot TV aerial mounted on top of the garage (which is further up the hill than the house) and this only picked up BBC 1 and BBC2. I took it down in the end as it was pointless, so would probably be very expensive to put up a new digital aerial up again..... just to see if it now worked.

If its simply a knackered box, surely Sky will replace it if the alternative is a happy subscriber stopping paying them money?

There are a few threads on here about making sure you get through to the disocnnections lot, who are really the retentions sales folks. My OH's father has just had a nice upgrade from a dodgy old Gen 1 Sky box to HD for nothing.
