Being the audio genius that I am I have aquired speaker cable with banana plugs at both ends (for free thank god). How on earth do I connect these to my Cambridge Audio 640a amp?

Help!

I'm guessing I strip the banana plug off and use the wire?

You might find that there are small blanking plugs in the middle of the amp's speaker terminals: Remove these (small screwdriver to prise them out) and your cable will plug straight in. If not, then your original solution will still work. smile

The few pieces of Cambridge kit I've owned have just that.

Pins stuck in the sockets - these are easily removed.

Apparently this is something to do with health and safety... (yes honestly)

Here's the back of the amp with the screw in knobs removed. There's what appears to be a metal disc like a washer in there but when I prise at it it starts to split. Something is wrong here!

Those are different to what I (and OldSkoolRS) were referring to.

Looks as though you will need to remove the plugs from one end of your cables.

This is the rear of a Cambridge 540 with the blanking pins removed.

You can clearly see (right hand side) the sockets.

See the little end caps in the centre of the red and black screw downs of the ones you haven't removed?

Prise one of them out, all will become apparent.

Plotloss are those removable? They look as though they're moulded as part of the top? (although from what I've seen on here I trust your judgement).

Apologies for the use of that offensive word there but I really was being 'special' for a while!

Blimey, I'm glad I didn't suggest that you used pliers or something, you'd have levered off the whole back panel!! At least you got sorted in the end. smile
