I have a space in my life for a new telly. I wife has OKed a 42" to 50" one (she, unreasonably, said that 60" was too large ), I have £600-£800ish cash waiting to be spent.
......but, do you think I can find one I want?
I considered 42" Panasonics. Then I sold myself on a LG PK350 for the same price. Today, I went to see one in action, and it looked awful. Then I went into a small independent dealer, who had a LG 50" awaiting repair (just out of warranty): he said avoid LG like the plague.
Then my wife saw a Panasonic LCD (or was it LED?) for about £800 and said she liked that picture very much. But I was sold on another plasma.
Why can't I just find the telly I want?

You're clearly beyond the "fun research" phase of the purchase. I'd just get yourself down to your nearest John Lewis and pick one out (with the help of an assistant if need be).
The longer you spend messing around, the more depressed you'll become. Then you'll probably have an argument with the wife and she'll tell you that she never wanted a new TV in the first place etc etc.
Just do it.
