We have an Xbox 360 and PS3 running into a 42" Sharp Aquos (or whatever it's called) via HDMI. They're both running at 1080p but there are always jagged lines on things..

For example in a video game like forza, if it does a cinematic view of the car the edges won't be 'crisp', they'll be quite jagged with lots of 'steps' in it (okay, going about a weird way of describing it).

Is this just the way it is, or is it something to do with the TV/Input? I know if I watched a similar clip on my iMac in HD, there would be no jagged lines?

Part II:
Also, I'm off to Uni next year.. So I need a TV for my room. I'll probably just use it for Xbox and PS3 (Thinking of both.. For just Forza and GT5 - the only games I actually play).. I'd be interested in hearing opinions on what to get?

I don't want a huge TV, maybe something like 24", similar to my iMac.. But I want it to be good quality. Freeview would be a plus, even though I don't really watch much TV. Budget is around £250.

LG do a decent 22" TV/monitor for around £200.

As for the jaggies (the proper term is aliasing), that'll just be the source. Most console games aren't 1080 lines anyway and many don't employ anti-aliasing so you will see jagged edges.

LG have a 24" LCD monitor with HDMI and VGA ports for £230, I presume I'd need a freeview box if I wanted to watch TV though?

Edit:
Would something like that be a better idea than a TV?
