what tv should i get

I'm after a new tv i have upto £550 to spend for a tv upto 40/42 inch.
Whats best to get brand wise?I like LG and Samsung but i will look at other brands.
What are plasma sets like now or is it best to stick with lcd.I dont want anyhing to fancy
Any advice please

About 10/12 feet-its a smallish room. would a 40 be too big?
