LG PK350 Plasma
Discussion
I've been considering a new 50" TV and was pretty much sorted on the default Pannasonic option. However, I was in a store today and saw an LG PK350. I was very impressed with the picture (playing a Blu-Ray) and it's only £599 (plus £60 for as 5 year warranty with Richer Sounds). I've only ever gone for Sony before and have no experience of the quality (or not) of LG. Currently using scart for Sky+ and HDMI for blu-ray, although this TV has two HDMI, so could switch Sky to that.
What's the general consensus on LG products.

In a word - value.I bought their mid-range 60" plasma before the World Cup and am very happy with it. Essentially - not quite as good a picture as something like the top line Panasonics, but you are getting close enough to seriously look at the price difference... The closest Panny to the LG I bought is 5" larger, visibly (but not crushingly) better picture quality but over 3 times the price I paid at the time...
Unless you are a videophile for whom nothing but the best will do, I'd consider the LG Plasmas very compelling - especially in the larger sizes - and certainly a better choice under most conditions than almost any LCD.
We bought one over a Panasonic a couple of Months ago & I'm well impressed with it. Sound is a lot better than I expected (actually a lot better than a 6 month old Panasonic 42" LCD we also have) Wouldn't like to have it if there was a window in front of it (ie behind the seating position) as its pretty reflective.

Richer Sounds are doing the 50PK350 this weekend for £499.95 if you are a VIP club member. Usually all you need to say is that you've received the VIP email and state the price, which worked for me a few years ago with an amp I bought...I didn't have to print the email off or anything. Might be worth joining on line first so they can see you're a member when you go into the shop. They might not have the LG on the next email as it changes each time (I think it's weekly), so hopefully just joining and quoting the email will do.

Hi
I bought the 50pk590 about two weeks ago, which is somewhat similar I believe.
The picture is superb, I'm very pleased.
I have this tv aswell - it has built in FreeviewHD which the pk350 doesnt (plus a few other little bits n pieces [THX mode - saves you having to setup/configure the picture yourself!.. amazing mode for HD Movie watching]). other than that pretty much the same tv.I bought the 50pk590 about two weeks ago, which is somewhat similar I believe.

Picture quality is indeed superb. Even its SD quality is really very good which surprised me for a budget 50" tv.

I would beg to differ on this point, ive installed lots of these TV's and to me the SD picture is dire, even Samsung look better on SD. That is of course a personal opinion.Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
