Have just joined the 21st century by purchasing a LCD TV and DVD recorder to replace our CRT TV and VHS recorder!!

I asked the salesman in the shop about recording a programme on BBC1 (say) whilst watching ITV (say) and he said that I couldn't do this unless I bought an aerial splitter. However, looking at the set-up instructions the aerial comes into the DVD recorder and then from this to the TV so I'm not sure a) whether I actually need a splitter or b) if I do where does the splitter go?

Sorry that this is a really basic question!!

Without reading the manual I would suggest the salesman was talkng testicles, assuming you are recording 20th century analogue signals.

Presuming both have Freeview tuners so you can record using the DVD's tuner set to one channel, and watch TV using the TV's own internal tuner set to a different channel.

Enjoy your new toys!

As above if both have Freeview [DVB] tuners then you can watch one and record the other by connecting as youve described

Well, having googled it, the DVD burner has it's own tuner, so you can watch anything the tv can pick up while it records.

You dont need a splitter, connect the aerial to the DVDR then there is an output on the DVDR that you connect to the TV using a lead that comes with the DVDR.
