Evening all,

I'm after a new toy. The 32" Sony digital CRT we've had for 8 years is becoming more and more emotional as it gets older and, hell I'm man enough to admit to myself I fancy a bit of retail therapy. So we're after a new telly. Our lounge is barely 3m X 4m and since we didn't try hard enough at school this space doubles as our dining room so I think we're going to have to limit ourselves to 37 inches. I've had a look in Currys and even 37" seems plenty big enough to me (how some of you get along with your 50+" beasts I've no idea). Anyway, as a sucker for the brand and their aesthetics I quite like the look of another Sony and the Sony KDL37EX503 scored pretty well in last months WHSAV Supertest.

£650 with 5 years warranty seems ok to me.

Any other suggestions? I know many of you think I should really be after a Panny Plasma (convince me) but I'll ask for help anyway.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mr P. I was half expecting (hoping) you to reply. Tell me, never having had a plamsa before, and only ever viewed them in a crappy big chain environment and not really "got" them, what have I not appreciated about the Panasonic range? Half this forum believes the sun shines out their HDMI sockets, but they remain a mystery to me.

And by God they're not lookers, are they?

Quick thread resurection, are plasma cheaper than LCD, wouldn't have thought so yet this is £450 in Tesco http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.208-1114.aspx and I've been looking at Panny 37" LCD which seem to be around £750. Plotless, I know your opinion is to get plasma if it's available in the required size so is there a catch with this model? R...

No catch. It'll be the better set in picture quality terms.

What about if the set was also being used as a PC monitor?

I'm looking at replacing a 32" LCD in the conservatory, that will also double as a monitor for video editting in the darker evenings (it will be moved to another room in winter). I could fit a 37" in the conservatory and the price seems little more than a 32" anyway, but I'd be using it for long periods with static parts of the image so screen burn or IR might be more of a concern, plus I'd want the sharpest image for reading small text too. FWIW whatever set I get will be calibrated this winter as I've found out about a deal for a week's rental of a i1Pro sensor so I may as well do all my displays. smile

If I stick to 32" would the Panny or Sony be the better option in LCD versions? I'd want 1080p for the PC use BTW.

PC inputs do skew the playing field as they are less motion and more resolution dependant so LCD does win in that area as LCD is better at displaying a (largely) static image.

Currently the image processing electronics in the Panasonics are top of the class but there won't be a massive margin between them.

Thanks for the quick reply Plotless. I'm likely to go Plasma in the living room when I eventually change that set, but this one is a different situation with the PC use and bright environment.
