My friend is after a bit of advice. He has just bought a 47inch LED LG TV for £1300. He got it delivered and set it up himself. The picture is amazing but after a week he has only watched it twice because the sound is so poor. This is because the TV is only 30mm deep so the speakers are super thin ones and have no base. Sounds like the TV is in the bathroom.

He is convinced that he cant send it back but i am sure like at argos you can always send / return things back by law within 14 days? The only other solution is to watch TV with the surround sound on permenantly but as he lives in a terrace house i dont think his neighbours would be too happy.

I told him to maybe contact them and tell them that he will order a normal LCD TV for the same price as he isnt after a refund this might soffen the blow to Dixons.

He got the TV a week today ( Sat 19th June )

Any ideas would be welcome.

Cheers Brian

LED LCD TVs are all thin and therefore none have "outstanding" sound quality. If your friend had done some

research he would have discovered this. You can however get some passable external sound systems (soundbar)

for c.£200.A Soundbar is possibly the best option.

I'm afraid that it is unlikely your friend will be able to exchange his TV,because it is not faulty.

Had there been a fault he would have been able to exchange, refund etc..under Sales Of Goods.

Hope this helps.

£1300 on a telly? Even if i won the lottery i don't think i could bring myself to spend that much.

Argos still do the 16 day no quibble money back thing as far as i know.

Jesus wept, tell him to just turn the surround system down quieter. It's not hard.

Just found out that because he bought it on line and didnt physically see or hear the TV there is a law that means he can send it back within 14 days for a full refund or exchange.

What a result!

early adopter hard luck?

ETA - OK possibly not early adopter - but it seems like this is how they are built. Why would you spend £1300 on a telly and then not get a home cinema audio setup? Surely the built in speakers on higher end TVs are not really intended to be used? Also part of the point of LED is so you can have a super-thin casing, you can't have everything. Try before buy.

That's all well and good but if your friend wants a thin flatscreen TV he's going to have to put up with relatively poor sound quality unless hooked up to external source. Poor sound isn't unique to the LG, so what's he going to do now?

He's going to get a LCD tv that aint as thin as the LED one. He was told that the sound isnt that good out of the LED's but he didnt listen. Maybe in a couple of years they will work out how to get around it.

For £1300 couldn't he get cosmetic surgery to make his ears bigger?

PS- Why should any retailer have to take the set back once he has used it? I know they legally have to, but why, when he bought a technology that is renowned for crap sound and didn't do any research? Customer is always right my arse
