Hi all,
Looking at moving across to digital music playing Apple Lossless files from iMac or MacBook with or without and airport express.

At the weekend i visited a friends and demoed a Weiss Dac2 and a Lavry DA10, both from a Macbook, they were very good, the Weiss was better but not twice the price better. I am very tempted by the Lavry but at the other end of the scale is the Beresford Caiman which also gets excellent reviews.

I am having trouble finding any information on these two together. Does anyone one have exprience of both of these and can offer some comments.

Thanks
D

Good choice.

I am an audiophile by interest and an audio engineer as a day job and been running without a CD player for the last 3 years.

Luckily for me the AV decoder I have has very decent Apogee clocking and very good DAC already for 2 channel audio, which through a lot of testing even edged out a Chord DAC 64.

The Lavry stuff does have a very good standing in the pro-audio world for DA. That said, have seen the Weiss but never heard a comparison.

The only thing I would add is how the Apple lossless files get decoded. Are they decoded back to 16 bit 44.1k in the Macbook or is the decoding done in the DAC?

I believe the mac plays it bit perfect. If i am answering that correctly.

Would love the Weiss but far to much money. I may go the upgrade route slowly. Lavry would be preferred route but they are rare on the used market.

Weiss 202, look no further.

And ignore the Naim one IMO. I just sold mine on ebay.

Get yourself a Cambridge audio dacmagic from ebay and get these boys to mod it for you. Bargain and sounds excellent. Gives the dac64 a run for its money.
