Idea of value: Roksan Xerxes (original)
Discussion
I've got an original Roksan Xerxes with Artemiz arm, that has sat idle for a good ten years, if not longer. It's currently being 'borrowed' by a work colleague who is considering buying it, but, i don't know what it is worth. Condition is excellent.
Anybody care to suggest a realistic value please?

maybe do some searches on ebay checking the 'completed listings' box
or search pinkfishmedia and exdem 'for sale' forums ?
I was deep into hifi when the xerxes came out and shook up the hifi world. I remember demoing it at Cathedral street and then also dealing with their sales guy Xavier (pretentious difficult chap if ever there was one) as we were going to become dealers. I remember how the timing and impressive detail with just an RB300 seemed to knock the spots of an LP12/Ittok in an initial A to B
found this the other day and found it interesting:
"The Roksan sounds very different to the LP12. At first listening, it excels in overall clarity and fine detail, while at the same time good bass presentation. Though, longer listening and comparisons reveal, that detail is faked by resonances. This is very obvious, if you replace the Artemiz by a neutral tonearm (SME). With an SME, all the treble sparkle is gone, but the midrange and treble is more true. The other faked characteristic can be revealed by blocking the motor suspension. With blocked motor suspension, the timing gets true and real, but at the same time the bass gets overly lean.
Overall I consider the Roksan of lesser quality than the LP12. Although it sounds more neutral and clear in direct comparison, it has severe other shortcomings."
