PS3 with PlayTV or Humax PVR and Blueray player?
Discussion
Argos have an offer on at the mo where I can get a PS3 slim 250gb and the Sony PlayTV box for about £285 all in.
This would give me a blueray player and PVR, plus obviously the functionality of a games console (although I am not really a gamer).
The alternative is a Humax 9300 PVR @ £155 and a Blueray player (circa £100)... slightly less money, but not games console usage.
How good is the ps3 as a Blueray player and does anyone have experience of the PlayTV box?... i want absolute ease of use.
cheers

Play TV - its ok. Pretty user friendly and records in the background allowing you to use your ps3 for other things while you record. BUT, you can only record one program at a time and i am not sure it does series link. Ps3 works very well as a bluray player in my view. Its sounds like a good deal for a very good setup.
as has been said,
PS3 works well as a bluray can't comment on how it compares with other BRplayers.
interface using game controllers is a tad clumsy but useable.
you get a games console. assuming an internet connection (WiFi is built in and to be honest you probably need the connection to make the PS3 work properly) you can use iplayer via the PS3, stream music/photos (not brilliantly- but it does sort of work - probably works better if you store the music/photo on the PS3)

+1- another vote for Play TV. It does have series link now and only a software update away from dual recording I think. It's better picture quality than most digi boxes and Sony have released a couple of updates since launch that have improved the picture quality further. The blu ray quality is a match for say an entry level panasonic blu player.
The only caveat is that the ps3 is always on and I guess therefore the HD is spinning which will reduce the ultimate life. But for what you get its a bargain.
