So they can reproduce RGBY for a bigger colour gamut and hence better colours. Fair enough.

But do any devices output video in RGBY?
Is any soucre material recorded in RGBY?

Am I missing something other than the fact that the advert with an aged Sulu is rather irritating?

The only RGBY that I am aware of is RGB sync on yellow as is used by scart, im not aware of anything that outputs Red Green Blue Yellow.

Not only is the advert annoying, but the technology isn't even new. I can't remember if it was Sharp, but way back in the eighties there was a TV with a very similar name to today's Quatron - also pushing the yellow as an additional colour, which only goes to prove that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I agree, it's not new technology as such. I've repaired a few Samsung DLP rear projection TV's and some of the later models use colour wheels with 5 colours (over just RGB). They use RYGBC wheels (red, yellow, green, blue, cyan). Same idea just implemented in a different way!
