Yes 10 - 15mtrs is ok, but don't buy the cheapest and test it before you bury it in any walls.

At that sort of distance the quality of the cable does have an effect on the performance, you may not see it but the electronics may be having to work at its limit to get the picture to you.

When using a better quality one would result in the same image being seen, but the electronics working well within its limits to create it for you.

Alternatively look at running a pair of CAT5/6 cables and use a HDMI/RJ45 baluns.

Thanks VEX,

I need to run 4 HDMI cables and with the cost of th balons at £40 i think it would be better cost effective to purchase 4 hdmi leads.

Thanks

I think I got my 10m cables from www.hdcable.co.uk

EDIT:

...actually it might have been www.tvcables.co.uk.

Anyway I've used both companies smile

Both TVCables and HDCables should be good suppliers.

Are all 4 HDMI cables going to the same location. If so seriously consider a switch and a single HDMI run.

Also don't assume that if one cable works the others will be fine, you could be on the balance between working and not, so test them all.

If you want a good quality 1080p (or better) standard cable, there is going to be a lot more than £10 per cable difference.

I would certainly do it with one good cable and a switch.

One that specifically states that over that length it will transport 1080p.

Not all of them on that site state that.

It is over lengths like that and above where the real differences in cable manufacturing quality come in. The better the cable the longer distance it can transport a high bandwidth signal like 1080p before errors are induced and you get a sparkly or black picture.

When I first got a projector, I bought a 10 metre HDMI cable and found that it wouldn't pass 1080p, I'd only get 'noise' though it worked fine at 720/60p. I then bought a slightly dearer one that did claim 1080p compatability in the specs and it works perfectly at 1080/60p (the higest data rate I could test it at the time). It's been in for 3 years or so and I recently changed my setup which means that I need to send 1080p in 36 bit 'Deep colour' (long story involving a video EQ/CMS device that is at the projector end) which is testing the cable even more and surprisingly it still works fine without any glitches, so it's worth buying a decent one especially if it's going into a wall as you never know what you might want to be sending down it in a few years time. I think I'd be pushing my luck with 3D through it though...

If you can and you need a 20m one buy from the QED Range, very good quality and reliable, i've used them loads of times and they always work with 'signal handshake'
