I have a KEF 30B at home at the moment, is it worth upgrading from this sub? If so, what to?

I'll be looking at 2nd hand, if that helps!

(Speakers are KEF Q35.2, Q15.2, Q95C with a Denon 1909)...

Upgrading the an entry level subwoofer is always a pleasant experience, as you hear and feel massive gains and its so easily implemented. Pick an M&k (miller and kreisel) sub (SB8 is good) in your price range or anything from REL from the T2/1 upwards.

Think about room placement. Personally I like to feel the sub and have it very near the seating area. However, there is mountains of info on the web re room acoustics, nodes and wavelengths and maybe worth browsing if you are sad.

I've got 2 M&K V-125's sat around if that's of any interest?

One is THX, both were removed from my system when i bought a Linn 5150.

Haha! Awesome!

The 30B is a good sub, It just makes a horrible vibrating/ratting sound when up quite loud (-10 or so)

Is that normal? :/ It's the same sort of noise you hear in cinemas occaisionally under extreme bass.

M&K all the way, great subs, i've got a V125 and its immense, 15 years on and still going strong and its a classic design so it still looks new.

SVS is another to consider, American brand. Really happy with mine after replacing my ageing REL Stadium. Makes my pants flap hehe

Another vote for SVS here, although I'm still searching for a used model as I'm after a downfiring one and they only make front firing these days. frown In the meantime I have a BK Electronics Monolith which is surprisingly good sub for around £400 new and looks like a small Oak table, and it does a decent job of filling a 6 x 4 metre room (no neighbours to worry about either evil).
