Newbie to Plasma - optimum settings and running-in advice?
Discussion
Just landed a new 42" plasma and want to be sure it's set-up right. Now, I've read about 'running-in' the screens - is this necessary and if so how do I do this? Also, where do I find the optimum sound and colour/contrast settings as at the moment they are set at the manufacturers default settings.
Thanks in advance.

Be helpful if you'd mentioned what TV you have - are we to assume it's a Panasonic (G20?), due to being the more common recommendation on here?
In a general sense:
First 1-200 hours of viewing should be conducted with the TV set to Cinema/Movie mode, and then the brightness and contrast turned down to about 1/3 the max setting - so low number or more to the left of the bar graphic.
Try not to leave games paused for too long, but if you must, turn off the TV or put into Standby.
After that, you can be a bit more blase about the settings - buy a good set-up disc or there's something you can download and burn to DVD off AVForums, which should help you 'calibrate' it to the best of the controls' ability, without having to venture into obtaining an engineer's remote for more precise tuning.
If it is a G20, then THX mode should be chosen for watching movies - it should be left at default, unless you need to push brightness to compensate for room light level.
As for sound - just a matter of using your ears to what sounds good for you at your typical volume level.

??????
I have a panny 42" plasma bought from der in August 2008.
Its on for 6ish hours a days so 20 months x 30 days x 6hours = 3600 hours approx. usage so far.
I did not run it in on any special settings, and its fine.
So basically in my experience crack on with whatever you like on your settings it will make no difference.

Ditto, 2 42" panas here, didnt run them in, no problems either. Running in is for the people who aquire dodgy black levles when they read about on tinterweb Seriously though, take it off Dynamic full stop its basically shop demo mode, to set it up your brightness/contrast properly follow this guide http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AQwyoj0hghSKZGZu... test patternes included.
