My old TV is on the blink and seems that it will only last a few more weeks. I would like to purchase a 3D TV and have approx £2500 to spend. I am limitted to 50" screen size or smaller, as the space available is only 50" wide.
Currently, I seem to be going for either the Samsun C8000 or the Panasonic 50VT20 Plasma, but can't seem to decide which is best. Can anybody advise me the pro's and con's of each, or any comments about them, especialy if you have seen them or now have one ? Thanks

First 'Recommend me a 3DTV' thread!

Makes a change to the HD ones - didn't I say it would become mainstream soon...!

For your budget you could get the Samsung 63 inch I was looking at. Remember if your space is 50 inches wide, then the 63 inch will probably fit, as that is the diagonal length of the screen.

50VT20 all day long, kicks the 'dung into touch.

It's a 3D panel with the Kuro engine (with some tweaks) nothing in the market is anywhere near it.

Will you not also need a blueray player that is capable of seinding a 3d signal / sky 3d channel ?

went to the gadget show and from having a look it seemed to suggest you need something to decode the 3d signal, not just the tv which displays it ?

I thought I would mention, just got the heads up:

At Richer Sounds on Monday between 12 and 2, you can get the Samsung 63" 3D for £2000 as long as you buy a wall bracket and blu-ray player at the same time.

Thats a deal and a half...!

Only a deal and a half if you're non plussed about getting the best PQ for your money.
If they can give them away at that size, then it's overstock, liquidated stock, factory graded stock or refurb - but you'll never know which.
It's still a Samsung at the end of the day, and at least their Plasma is better than their LCD, both conventional and LED backlit, but I still wouldn't have one.

?

The screen has only been out a few days. I hardly think it is likely to be possibly a refurb or come from a bust company.

These are new screens.

You could indeed get a slightly better 50 inch for £500 more, or you could get the Loewe 37 inch I saw in Selfridges for a grand more, and that was superb.

However, for a big screen and 3D, there is a lot of bang for your buck there.

It's Richer.

You'll go there to buy one, they'll have 1 in Ramsbottom or somewhere and they'll try to switch sell you into something of similar size for less money...

Indeed, you pays your money you pays your choice.

The other deal I have seen on it you are not forced to buy the blu-ray or the bracket from them. £2399 including a 4 year warranty.

Gonna try them out in the flesh when I get the chance. What is interesting about that model is that it makes pseudo 3D at 1080i from 2D inputs like the PS3 etc.

Slightly OT but does anyone know if John Lewis on Oxford Street have any 3D TV's and goggles on display to play around with?

How does the VT20 compare to the V20 in terms of 2d performance? Is there any difference?

As the 50V20 is not in the shops until June nobody has been able to do a comparison. It is possible that the 3d technology in the VT will give a better 2D picture but will have to wait and see. If you are not interested in the 3D facility then £700 is lot extra to pay IMHO.

I'm with you on the price issue, I'm not a 'believer' when it comes to 3d, but that's a whole other thread... My understanding is that the VT20 uses the Kuro tech Panasonic bought, but I'm not sure if the V20 does.

does the VT20 still suffer from degradation of blacks over time? I recall reading something about this from the USA

Yes the V20 features the new modified Kuro engine.

Taking delivery of my 50' VT20 and 3D blu ray from Guildford Panasonic today, can't wait to see how it looks... coming from a 2004 Panasonic 37' so it should be quite a difference!
