My sky+ remote has become very poor recently.
It is extremely un responsive, and negotiating the EPG takes an ages.
It will also no longer control my TV which is what makes me think it's the remote.

Are they expensive to replace? (the remotes)

Not overly expensive but have you tried replacing the batteries?

Might seem obvious, but have you tried powering down the box?

Only you can say weather its the box or the remote control, if its just slow operating the guide then its more likely the box, if certain buttons no longer work or you have to press them really hard then its the remote control. On the front of the box there is a light that illuminates every time you press a button on the remote so you can use this to find out if the box is recieving a signal from the remote control. Also finally the Sky remote is programmable and it does forget this programming if the batts go flat or are removed for a certain period, so you will need to re program it so it will work your TV volume again.

Sorry to be negative, but I had this problem (not an HD box though), and it just went from bad to worse, in that not only did the remote not work, but the buttons on the front of the box itself stopped working. I simply could not use sky at all. Had numerous boxes from sky, and several calls to the "helpline" produced temporary improvements. Nothing worked for more than a week. I am hoping Virgin tv will be better - its certainly better value for money IMHO, and I have just joined. In any event good luck, and I hope you get it sorted as there is nothing more irritating than paying for a service you cannot use! rage

I recently experienced the same problem; slugishness navigating the EPG.
I powered off the box, removed and cleaned the card, powered box back up and normal service has been resumed.

How do you reprogram your Sky remote?

a quick google will get you the code list,

press tv

press select+red together until the light on the r/c flashes twice

press tv

enter code

press standby

if the TV switches off press select and your done

if it dosent switch off press tv then standby (keep doing this until the tv switches off)

when it does switch off press select and your done

if it dosent switch off you have either entered the wrong code or there isnt a code for that particular model.

SkyHD boxes are, in my experience anyway, hugely affected by direct sunlight.

Obviously this may not be a concern in your case but its something to consider.

yes mine is exactly like this - when the room is bright particularly with direct light on the box the remote often won't work at all.

obviously change the batteries but its likely the box. Do a 'unplug - hold down backup button on back - plug in' reset on box. If that doesnt help the box is on the way out. frown

The Mrs tells me that "normal service has resumed" for now anyway...
