Freeview vs Freesat
Discussion
All, thinking of ditching the monthly sky payments and moving to either freeview or freesat. Now, not knowing much apart from sky, is one better than the other? and what are the best STB's
not sure what info will help but see below:
Thinking of going hd - if swmbo allow a new lcd
Don't really watch many other programs other than the standard stuff - bbc. itv etc.
CBeebies is a must - to keep the little one quite sometimes
The only issue is that I watch sky sports - rugby but I can't justify the £40 per month for this. Although this is moving to ESPN so this maybe possible to view with a card?
Ability to record (and watch a different channel at the same time) is a must so dual tuner is required.
Sky is currently set up to view in another room via a magic eye. does this type of set up work on the boxes?
Any help/advise appreciated
thank you

I have both and very seldom watch free sat mainly because some of my favorite channels(Virgin one, Five USA) are not on it, I don't think it is worth having for the one HD channel and a few rubbish films.
+1 Got both but don't think that I've watched anything on FreeSat yet.
Have both and use both. The HD channels are now 2 in number and hopefully C4HD will be along soon.
Wouldn't take much to ditch the sky just a few of the channels on SKY such as Dave, Living, Comedy Central but I guess SKY have them by the balls and will never let them go FreeSat.
In my area FreeSat is the only choice as the signal is to weak for the Aerial.

Freesat channels are here, my parents have the Humax freeview recorder box and I have the Humax Freesat recorder box, the Freesat box is designed as a multimedia platform I think as it has menus for playing music off external hard drives, but as a result isn't quite as intuitive to use as the Freeview one. The Freesat boxes also cost quite a bit for the recorder (but if you had Sky+ with two wires coming from the dish it will record 2 channels at once), but the big advantage of the Freesat box is that is connects to your network and you can watch the BBC iPlayer on it.

Freesat isn’t going to last, in my opinion. Freeview HD is broadcasting now in most parts of the UK and will become the standard over the next few years, as receivers become more readily (and cheaply) available.
I’d either take the plunge and pay out for an early Freeview HD box, or pick up a regular Freeview box to tide you over for a year or two and then upgrade.

Yes, but there are some bits of the country where you don't get a decent terrestrial signal, and you really need a satellite source. My Dad lives in an area like that. No mobile phone signal, no terrestrial TV, and obviously no DAB either.I’d either take the plunge and pay out for an early Freeview HD box, or pick up a regular Freeview box to tide you over for a year or two and then upgrade.
Plus, for those of us who live in foreign climes, at least for part of the year anyway.............
There has to be room for both.

Some of us outside of the M25 aren't deemed worthy of getting an aerial signal, so have no choice but to use a dish and refused to pay umpteen channels a month for endless football/golf and other pointless pursuitss so Freesat HD is gratefully recieved thank you very much.Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
