It's not a Plasma, and it's not a Panasonic.
But it is nearly £300 cheaper than the 46G20.If you can increase the budget to £1060 fine.
Besides, the Panny is only just out/coming very soon, so prices are naturally higher than they'll be come June/July time.
So it the OP can push the budget, and restrain himself for the next couple of months, then the G20 is a real prospect.
If he was buying a 32" TV for watching Corrie on, then it's a moot point, but at 46", then cinematic feel is brought into the mix.
On the assumption he's not sitting close enough to the TV to make use of the 1080 resolution, then the 50X20 is a valid alternative, and at reduced expenditure.

I refer my right honourable forum members to the continuation of the link I posted in another TV thread:

It seems that the G20 series may well be susceptable to lightening of black levels after a few hundred hours use also like the previous G10 models. This thread (and a few other similar ones) has put me off buying a Panasonic plasma however good it looks when new, in a short time it may look washed out.

Has the G20 been out long enough for someone to have watched it for 100s of hours? I think I'll still buy one anyway.http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasma-tvs/1234977-...

From what I understand, it's not just a Neo-PDP issue (introduced with the G range), but pervades the 80 series, and maybe the 70 too.
If that's the case, and from reading some of the link posted, our "decrepit" PX70 is showing no signs of it, and I wouldn't even be able to hazard a guess as to how many '000s of hours it has on its panel.

i consider it to be scaremongering now, since it was mentioned in the other thread i checked our computer and we have over 4000 of these sets out on rental (that not including P70's and 80's) and we havent had 1 complaint reguarding blacklevels. What we do get a lot of is complaints reguarding vibrating cabinets.
I've had my panny 42V10 since end of October 2009. It gets on average 10hrs a day during the week (use it as a monitor for my laptop whilst I remain working from home) - so by my reckoning its had well over 1200hrs use with no noticeable change in blacks.
In fact no noticeable change in anything since I calibrated it when new (test DVD downloaded from AV Forums) which I then repeated a few weeks ago.

As per the linked topic to AVF, there's barely anecdotal evidence that it's a widespread problem - rather only a number of users affected.
Unfortunately, outside of lab-grade electronic design, you'll get this variation in a mass produced item.
That users are going to Panasonic directly, when their reseller is with whom the contract lies, is another issue, which with no verification of the problem by Panny CS, only stokes the fire there - DSG's Tech Guys "knowledge" of the problem and a "band-aid" fix withstanding.
