I have had a problem with losing the picture on our Virgin V+ box for a week or so - could hear the sound and the menus/EPG all show up fine, so after some time on the phone to someone with a script who wanted me to check my TV and HDMI leads (err...) I had an engineer booked to come out last Friday.

To their credit they could have someone out next day but I wouldn't be around.

So - engineer says I prob need a new box and (as I secretly hoped) he found me one of the new Samsung ones in his van.

Not only does it not fugly like the original one, it's MUCH faster, changing channel/menus/EPG etc. are almost at Sky+ box levels (not quite, but not far off) and is much more pleasant to use.

He said if you have a box swap they don't know what make it is until they open the box, so I must have been lucky

Happy customer, if you have one of the crappy original ones, they don't have a policy of swapping them out so you may need to be persistent

I've not found the blue light a problem yet; the original box had a horrible cheap looking greenish light on standby that would literally light up my front room, so I'm happy smile

Oh God, my nan has one of these...I am seconds away from chucking the remote through the TV whenever I go around to hers. The Online services and On Demand services are forever freezing and locking up just at the good parts. You have to turn it off then back on again and then wait for blumin ages, it makes the 2-3 minute wait for the Sky+ box to boot seem like seconds.

Does anyone have any pics to hand of the old and new boxes as I am not sure what I have got. I currently have two boxes, one is a V box which is silver, is made by Samsung and looks ancient, this our secondary/spare room box and then I have a V+ HD box which is black, with green lights. So is their another alternative to my current V+ HD box?

silver is a non + box, black with green lights is the first + box

the samsung is a shiny gloss black with blue lights, smaller more compact etc
