I've had a Cyrus 8 amp for about 9 years now (paired with a PSXR and driving a pair of B&W 603s).

For the 3rd time the sound quality had worsened as the mid range disappears and the treble becomes full of reverb and distortion. Cyrus don't like admitting any design flaws and don't think the speakers are at fault, either.

Does anyone know of any known issues with the amp or the combination of amp and speakers? I'm despairing at the thought of another multi hundred pound repair for the same thing yet again.

Have you tried the amp with a different pair of speakers and source? Will show you where the problem is.

It's definately the amp. It's happened twice before and been back to Cyrus twice. Even the headphone output sounds ste.

I haven't spoken to them yet. The dealer I normally go through is closed on a Monday and I want to get their opinion before I speak to Cyrus.

If it's a compatability problem with the amp and speakers I'd rather they just turned around and said that's what the problem was rather than the denials I've had in the past. If I know I'm going to have to power amp the setup to avoid future problems I'd rather know about it than have the cloak and daggers routine. Sadly I don't feel flush enough at the moment to throw £1000+ at the problem on the off chance.
