Xbox 360 sound
Discussion
If I connect an xbox 360 to a TV via a HDMI lead, I presume this lead will also transmit the sound to the TV in 5.1. My question is will the optical out from the TV transmit the sound from the TV tyo an amp in 5.1 also.
The senario is one of my customers has been given a Dennon AV reciver, not the newest but the sound is excellent but there are no HDMI slots on it so we are just using the optical for the sound. However his xbox is just connected to the TV via the supplied lead using L/R audio and composite video.
I have purchased a HDMI lead for him to up the picture quality but have suddenly realised about the audio. The supplied lead covers up the HDMI slot when plugged in and I'm not sure whether this lead has the optical out on it-I have ween the hack about removing the plastic cover.
What would be the best way to get the best sound.
Cheers
Wayne.

No it wont, you will have to use the optical out also from the xbox. There are various different lead sets you can get for the xbox to achieve this, i too have discovered that the standard AV lead (that has the optical on it) covers the HDMI slot, there is an alternative available i have no idea of part numbers though, all i know it that it comes with the XBOX360 Elite.
