Hi folks:
My philips 30pf9975 is on it's last legs - the back lights(?) at the top of the screen have gone resulting in the top half of the picture being very dark.
So I am guessing this is going to be costly to fix, and as such I'm thinking it's time for a new set and have been looking around and have come up with the following short list:
Sharp LC32LU700E
Samsung UE32B6000VW
Sony KDL-32W5710
Panasonic TX-L32V10
Not being an expert in this area I was wondering what the general view was of the above (or suitable alternatives)-pro's / con's and that sort of thing.
Main usage will be watching TV and DVD's and recordings made on our Humax PVR, very limited game usage and we sit about 8 to 10 feet away from the set.
Many thanks in advance.

Why not use this as an opportunity to up the screen size to 37" or 42" - you get much better value for your money in that regard.
Don't need to worry over HD Ready or Full HD - the former is more than capable for your needs at that distance.
Panasonic Plasma 37/42X20 when they hit the shelves, if not already.

I bought a Panasonic TX-L32V10 just before Christmas from JL, deal included a BluRay player and 7 discs.
Finally had a dish installed so I could take advantage of built in Freesat. I don't know if the SD pictures are poor but I can tell the difference between SD and HD from a greater distance than the calculations predict.
Just need to install a network cable so I can hook up to the internet and get iPlayer when Panasonic update the firmware.
Before I bought the set I cut two pieces of wood the size of a 32" and 37" TV and decided the 37" would be too big for the room it was going into.

Right then, have been doing a bit of looking around and SWMBO has decided ona 37" set, so we've narrowed it down to:
Panasonic TX-L37V10 or the Samsung UE37B6000 both are about the same cost (£899 in John Lewis before proce match inc 5 yr guarantee) and i'm torn between the two.
SWMBO likes the Samsung design (as do I to be honest) but i feel the Pana might be the better long term option - any thoughts?

Panny 37X20 - as previously, 1080 native pixels is wasted on the LCD at that size, and is only a marketing benefit, not a user one!Panasonic TX-L37V10 or the Samsung UE37B6000 both are about the same cost (£899 in John Lewis before proce match inc 5 yr guarantee) and i'm torn between the two.

If you can push for the 42G20 - you may just be thankful you did, even if the 1080 pixel resolution won't be of much use still. Contrast ratio, Freeview HD, THX mode, dual ISF calibration memory slots for day time/night time ambient lighting conditions, are features you may come to appreciate down the line, if not straight away.
