OK Chaps looking for a little help, need a new Amp for a 5.1 set up budget circa 250 as I dont need / use the highest features.

Although I do WANT HDMI Audio (True HD / DTS HD), I want the ability for the AMP to do all the switching.

I have one PS3 and Sky HD TV, these I am happy with as I know I can assign the optical from SKY to work with the TV HDMI on most amps BUT

WOuld it be possible to also have it handle the switching for a component input from the Wii and a composite input from a cheap kids player.

I read some do / dont have upscaling does this mean I wont be able to use it to switch the Wii / Games player if I dont have upscaling.

My first choice was this one but not sure on the video can you help ?? If it wont do the video side any suggestions ?

Final Question smile do I HAVE to upgrade my 75W speakers at the same time ? I would much rather hang on and upgrade to a basic quality set at a later date.

Many Thanks for any help.

if you can stretch your budget to £300 you could get an Onkyo sr607. It will upconvert the video signals - everything into the amp , one cable to your display. What speakers do you have? If they are traditional speakers then you will not need to change them as a result of the new amp. If they were supplied with an all in one system then the chances are they wont work.

I too am interested in this, as i would like to upgrade my amp at some stage to one that does all the switching. Am i right in thinking that with an amp that switches, i could have a number of components attached using various connections eg HDMI, Component, S Video etc, and the video signal for each could be passed through just one HDMI lead to the TV? Is it also able to pass terrestrial and digital TV to the TV via HDMI?

Just dont buy a Denon. They are made by the devil to eat your time, setting non-sensical menus to seemingly random results.

If you hang around outside my house there will be a HDMI switching amp coming through the window later. fking junk.

Yes and Yes. All AV Receivers offer this functionality. I have a SONY STR-DH800 and the PVR, 360, Wii and PS3 all go into it, with 1 HDMI output going to the TV. Nice and easy to setup, great value, and use an All in one remote to control everything.

Ah, when I was looking half a year ago or so, it seemed all of them offered it, I thought it was the whole A/V receivers raison d'etre as it were, i.e to act as a hub between all multimedia devices and TV / separate speakers?

yes

I got one of these at Christmas - Fantastic Receiver.

More HDMI inputs than any other brand at the price and loads of other input types as well. Upscaling, universal remote, audyssey, every conceivable output sound type and on-screen menus - a real deal clincher. The telephone support is brilliant as well.

My Denon 1910 just works, had no problems at all, sounds lovely too.

Bit more expensive than £250 though.

I have 2 Denon AVR4306 (getting on a bit now!!) which are fantastic amps, for which I've had no problems and which upconvert etc without issues.

From what I've seen the user manual is fairly helpful too....!

It will be. When it's covered in lit petrol.

I believe my 505 does pass through and out via HDMI, all HDMI connected componentry, so if i get a new DVD/Blu ray player this might suffice, as i would only have to plug the Wii and TV antennae directly into the TV.
