I have a laptop that I use for music management via the 5.1 amp.

The next stage is to be able to display photos stored on the laptop onto the tele.

The laptop has HDMI and RGB/VGA.
The tele has S-video, scart, phono? (yellow socket for video in)

how and what is the best way to do this?

Can it be done with leads/cables or do I need some sort of converter?

in the next 12 months or so I will be buying an HD ready TV

cheers for your help

Should be able to set the output in your comp accordingly and use a vga to s-video converter cable

You have incompatable signal types there for a lead to do the job so a converter box would be needed. Tbh VGA converted to composit or s/video is next to useless for anything other than playng low res video.
The best you could do would be VGA - RGB(SoY) something like this http://www.nexusuk.org/projects/vga2scart/
but also resolution will be nothing like a real PC monitor.

I bought one of these from e-bay for around £6.00, as there are reviews that just mention to changing the screen resolution. (for £6 thought I'd give it a shot)

You were right it didn't work. I played with resolution and TV inputs, tried via DVR and Video players.............nothing apart from white dots.

have to wait for the new tele then.

cheers
