The Beckley transmitter is having work done for the digital switchover. We, in common with many people in the area, have been unable to get c50% of free to air channels for the last 4 weeks, and it won't be resolved until into April.

Can I get any sort of TV licence rebate (more as a point of principle, but every little helps!)?

It's worth asking them I suppose, althought licence fee only covers BBC but if you can prove you cannot receive any BBC channels then I suppose you can get a rebate.

Do you know what it is they have changed? Have they switched off some of the MUXes or reduced power on some of them? I'm curious.

Sorry don't quite understand, but I had heard that the main transmitter is off and a temporary one put up but at half the height of the regular one if that makes sense?

Ah sorry! Just in case you are interested, a MUX, (short for multiplex) is a "channel" on which a number of digital channels are squeezed. There's six of them in total, so if they switched off 3 of them then you'd lose half your channels. You can see what channels are on each MUX here: http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=SP567105

But it looks like they have not switched any off; as you say, they're currently using a shorter backup mast. Annoying.

Plot thickens...

New transmitter gets switched on - hurrah!

New transmitter bursts into flames - boo!

Nobody has an ETA for it coming on line again - big surprise!

Meanwhile to BFB house continues without reception on ITV1/2/flavours of C4 (but at least I'm now MUX-literate smile.

Should I just give up and go Freesat?

If so, what would I need to do/buy, anyone?

I'm in Deddington and my tx is Beckley. Admittedly we're on a hill and point straight at it. The only problem we have is crap rx of itv1 on 'normal'. If I switch to freeview, it all works fine. Do you have a good path from Beckley, or are you in a marginal reception area anyway?

It's pretty good - we're a bit lower than you but we're in an area which should get good reception according to the charts.
