We brought the OHs Grandma a freeview box last night because of the switchover coming next month in our area. With a bit of fiddling with an internal digi aerial(with a 8Db rating), We managed to get most of the channels apart from the BBC and ITV frequencies.

The area she lives is notorious for poor reception, even with analogue TV. My question is, If we buy an indoor aerial with a rating or say 20Db will this improve the channel selection?

If it were up to me I'd drill a hole to a roof top booster but this isn't possible at the minute.

Cheers in advance

Why not wait until after switchover to see what affect the boosting of the signal has on reception?

Check out digital uk to see what you should be able to get.

The signal will be boosted by a factor of at least 10 after switchover so I would wait and see. The Problems with Indoor aerials are usually down to the Digital signal being transmitted at low power so that the analogue signal suffered no interference.

I'd already checked the postcode checker and it says she should be able to receive them all. Hence why I wondered whether a new aerial may help.

Thanks anyway guys.

frown Think the plan is exactly that though, try it tonight. Wonder if you can take aerials back if you don't want/need it? Because I know you can't freeview boxes etc..scratchchin

I know my local comet stopped selling them for that reason. If it says on the box that it works with freeview then you have a good case to take it back when it dont work. All the sales staff know that they hardly ever work so they arnt suprised when they walk back in the door
